Choice Challenge
Students at Choice typically learn very efficiently and have already met many of the expectations of the basic BC curriculum. In addition they are highly curious and interested in activities and information not usually offered as part of the curriculum. Time is set aside once a week for 6 weeks each term. Students can choose from a range of learning options offered by teachers, and at times, outside instructors. It is a student’s interest in the topic, not their age or grade that groups them for these experiences, so they work with others who are similarly intrigued. This also supports our objectives of providing opportunities for students of different ages to be able to interact and to learn to support each other.

Yoga
Astronomy
Energy
Fine Arts
International Cuisine
Latin
Photography
Public Speaking
Rocks and Minerals
Bird houses
Scrapbooking
Passions Projects
It is also typical of Choice students that they have already developed keen interests in a variety of topics and deep interest in one or a few. We refer to these interests as passions and encourage students to explore and learn more about their passions.
Several times a year, students in all grades identify a passion and design and present an independent project. The presentation methods vary according to developmental age. Primary children present information by means of collages, mobiles, poems and posters while intermediate students demonstrate more sophisticated presentation methods such as research papers, digital presentations or lectures. The presentations validate and extend our students’ personal interests and enrich the entire Choice community!
