The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, has described the university’s growth as both exponential and intentional. He made this known during an address at the university’s Parents’ Forum, hosted by the Director of Student Mentorship and Parents Forum, Lady Jane Ndukwe, as part of activities marking the 13th Convocation of the institution.
In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke expressed deep appreciation to the Parents’ Forum for its continuous support. He explained that the annual meeting is designed to update parents on the progress made by the university and to jointly address challenges facing students.
The Vice Chancellor also gave a brief history of the institution and noted that Godfrey Okoye University now ranks among the best in Nigeria, with a student population of over 5,000 and a staff strength of more than 1,400. He highlighted the recently approved and accredited programmes of the National Universities Commission as evidence of the university’s steady advancement.
He emphasized that the discipline and training embedded in the university’s culture are geared towards nurturing students’ moral and academic development, urging parents to continue partnering with the university to achieve its goals. Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke further commended parents for their sacrifices, resilience, and commitment to their children’s academic pursuits.
The forum also witnessed the emergence of a new executive committee for the Parents’ Forum. Sir Chukwuemeka Odimba was elected Chairman, with Mr. Anthony Udaya as Vice Chairman, Chief Magistrate Onyia Ifeoma as Secretary, and Mrs. Chinazam Ulelu as PRO. Dr. Jude Madukwe and Dr. Cindy Ugwu were elected Financial Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
The Vice Chancellor thanked the new executives for accepting the responsibility, describing them as stronger stakeholders in the growth of the university. He encouraged them to look beyond traditional contributions and explore innovative ways of linking the university to both national and international funding opportunities.
In their acceptance speeches, the new executives expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them and pledged to serve with dedication, calling for continued support from the university management and the entire Parents’ Forum.
