Payment Methods
Direct Debit
Most of our students choose Direct Debit as their method of payment for their accommodation fees. To set up a Direct Debit, you need to have a UK bank or building society. If you are an overseas student and do not have this, you can set up a UK bank or building society account when you arrive in the UK.
What is a Direct Debit
A Direct Debit is a simple, safe, and convenient banking service. It allows you to instruct your bank or building society to automatically pay your accommodation fees on the due date.
Once your Direct Debit is set up, you will get an email with the payment schedule and amounts due - this is known as an Advance Payment Notice. We will then collect your accommodation fees on the collection dates outlined in the notice. Any changes to the payment schedule will be communicated to you at least five working days in advance of the collection date
.
How to set up a Direct Debit
To set up a Direct Debit to pay your accommodation fees:
you must have a UK bank account
complete a Direct Debit instruction in one of two easy ways;
online
, or with a
Direct Debit Instruction Form
(to be returned to Accommodation Services) the return address is as follows:

International Payments
The University has worked hard to develop good relationships with providers who can offer the most favourable payment methods and the most choice. In addition, we know that these platforms are safe and secure which is something our students have said was important to them.  Newcastle University uses the same platforms as many UK Universities and offers a choice in provider with Flywire, Convera and Easy Transfer
Please take time to compare the rates with all providers before you make your decision.
Bank transfer is often the most favourable rate.
Convera
and
Flywire
currently offer a price promise for payments by Bank transfer to give you confidence that you are getting a competitive price.
Easy Transfer
offer low and transparent exchange rates.
Please be aware of any charges added by our partners or your bank and ensure that your payment covers these.
When making a accommodation payment always quote your student number. This will ensure your payment can be allocated correctly.
We suggest that before contacting your bank and loading overseas cards in GBP, or, converting your funds to GBP for a  bank transfer, you look at the payment platforms and see if that option is offered.
Newcastle University takes payment security very seriously. We work with our bank and our payment service providers to provide you with safe secure platforms for you to pay your fees.
Where the University is unable to receive payments that involve either directly or indirectly countries that are subject to varying degrees of economic sanctions, students may need to make alternative arrangements to pay their fees.
Current countries/cities affected by banking sanctions are:
Iran
Venezuela
Cuba
Syria
Crimea
Donetsk People’s Republic (a.k.a. DNR)
Luhansk People’s Republic (a.k.a. LNR)
Kherson
Zaporizhzhia
If you are planning to make a payment from any of the areas above, please email
accommodation.finance@newcastle.ac.uk
and await guidance from a member of our team.
If you are making a payment from Russia, please contact
cash@ncl.ac.uk
for further information.
