Trees and hedges - Liverpool City Council
Environmental problems
Trees and hedges
We are responsible for maintaining trees, plants and hedges on
council-owned land. This includes trees in our parks, cemeteries, open spaces and along our streets - not on privately-owned land.
Dangerous or fallen trees
Call us to report a dangerous or fallen tree that is blocking the road, pavement or footpath.
Property damage
If a tree on council-owned land has caused significant damage to your property, submit a property damage claim.
Trees causing highway or safety issues
If a tree on council-owned land is causing obstruction to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, report it online.
Tree roots lifting a public footpath or pavement
You can report tree roots that are lifting a public footpath or pavement, causing a trip hazard.
Nuisance trees
Due to the environmental value of trees and our responsibility to protect them, there are a number of tree enquiries that we will not action or respond to.
Trees overhanging private property
Anyone can prune overhanging branches back to their own boundary line, unless the tree is subject to a Tree Preservation Order, or in a conservation area.
Tree planting and young trees
Information on our tree planting schedule, how to request a tree is planted, and damaged young trees in need of remedial care.
Tree procedures and inspection schedule
We have a standard three year inspection cycle for trees on council land. Tree works are scheduled as needed within the priority framework of statutory requirements.
