How are fees determined?
Fee charges at Minnesota State Mankato are governed by Minnesota Statutes and the Minnesota State Board of Trustees sets the
maximum
fee rates. The Student Association's Student Senate and Student Allocations Committee consult locally to develop fee usage plans. These plans, endorsed by the Student Senate, are submitted to the University President via the Vice President for Student Affairs, who makes the final decision on rates and allocations.

A fee supporting a wide range of programs for student cultural, social, athletic, and personal development, including intramural sports, music ensembles, student leadership, theater, international activities, and green transportation.

for Minnesota State Mankato students and employees who present a MavCARD. In 2023-24, this service provided
464,062 rides
across Mankato and North Mankato, reducing reliance on individual vehicles.
Previously part of the Student Activity Fee as the “Green Transportation Fee,” this initiative now operates separately. A Sustainability Fee Advisory Committee annually reviews campus needs and potential adjustments. This committee is distinct from the Campus Environmental Committee (Mavericks for Sustainability), which has a separate budget and focus.
A fee to cover debt service for student union renovations, funded by public bonds through Minnesota State. This fee, along with the union's own revenue, also covers liability insurance, utilities, equipment, furniture replacement, staff salaries, and supplies. No state tax dollars or MSU tuition funds are used for the student union's construction or operation.
A fee for acquiring, upgrading, and maintaining technology for academic and student support. This fee enhances student access to services like the wireless network, MavDisk, MavMail, computer labs, myMSU, MavPrint, distance learning, Tech Rec, Memorial Library lab, IMS, and classroom technology.
A fee to provide medical care, including physician services, pharmacy, lab, referrals, health education, and counseling for special needs like eating disorders and substance abuse.
A fee to cover debt service and operating/maintenance costs for an estimated $8.5 million in outdoor recreation facility improvements.
The Sports Dome at Minnesota State Mankato is a large facility featuring 1-1/2 soccer fields (or three small-sided fields), baseball and softball batting cages, and an attached support building with a check-in area, lobby, bathrooms, and storage space. Located on campus at Monks Avenue and Woodhaven Circle, it accommodates various sports such as soccer, football, softball, baseball, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, rugby, and cricket. Construction costs were partially funded by students through a referendum in December 2018, with an additional fee of 83 cents per credit, capped at $10 per semester, supplemented by University reserve funds.
A fee to support intercollegiate athletic programs, offering currently enrolled students prepaid admission to regular season home games (some restrictions apply).
