Returning Next Year
We have a limited number of rooms available for eligible full-year registered students who currently live with us and will be studying at the University for the next academic year, 2026-27. If you are eligible, we will contact you to provide further information on how to apply. We have now contacted all eligible students. Find out more about eligibility criteria below.
If you do not match the criteria, please don't worry. While we won't be able to accept your application for University accommodation, the city offers a wide variety of private student accommodation, from purpose-built flats, to student house shares.

Students with medical needs
If you have a medical need which impacts where you live, you may be eligible to return to University accommodation. We have now contacted students that may be eligible for the offer to return for the next academic year, 2026-27.
If you have not been contacted and feel your medical condition should be taken into consideration to return into university accommodation, you can contact us at
accommodation.medical@newcastle.ac.uk
International undergraduate students
2022-23 was the last cohort of students who were eligible to stay in university-owned accommodation for the full duration of their undergraduate degree. To ensure we can continue to meet the terms of our guarantee to new students we are no longer able to offer this.
Postgraduate students
To fulfil our New Student Guarantee, we are unfortunately not able to offer our current residents accommodation for the next academic year. For help with your search for private accommodation, visit
NUSU Housing Advice.

Couples and families
If you are continuing your studies into the 2026-27 academic year and remaining in Newcastle, you are advised to look in the private sector for accommodation.
Our family and couples’ accommodation is limited, and unfortunately, we are not able to offer current students accommodation for the next academic year.

What if I don't meet the criteria for returning to University-owned accommodation?
If you don’t meet the criteria to return next year, we won’t be able to provide you with accommodation. Don't worry, Newcastle has a range of accommodation for students, either in purpose-built accommodation in the city centre, or private housing in neighbouring local communities such as Jesmond, Heaton and Sandyford. For more information about these options, please visit the
Student Advice Centre
When will I know if I am eligible to return to University-owned accommodation?
If you are eligible to return to our accommodation next year we will contact you to provide further information about your options and invite you to apply.
