The EIB Office and student-led team develop and implement several curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular clubs, activities, programs and events that support students in learning about themselves, learning with and from one another. All ninth grade students take Creating Community, a required course that enables students to learn and practice the skills needed to form a school community in which all may thrive as their authentic selves and learn what it means to be engaged citizens in the world.
Student Equity and Inclusion Leadership
EIB-affiliated Clubs
EIB-affiliated Conferences for Students
There are many leadership opportunities for students to get involved in Newark Academy's EIB activities. They include serving as:
EIB Liaisons
- EIB liaisons serve as links between the Office of Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and its affiliated student organizations. Liaisons actively participate in campus-wide diversity and inclusion events and engage in off-campus conferences and student leadership development opportunities.
EIB Council
- Joining the council allows students to promote diversity, equity and justice throughout the school community through student centered programming.
There are several EIB-affiliated clubs for NA students, including:
Asian Diversity
Black Student Union
Christianity Club
Diverse Abilities Club
Gender Sexuality Alliance

Action
Identity
Students will understand the multiple facets of their identities. Students will learn where those traits come from and how they affect their lives. Equity work will also help students feel comfortable being themselves in diverse settings.
Diversity
Students will recognize the diversity of people in the world. They will be able to identify differences and commonalities, and express interest in the lived experiences of others. They will develop genuine connections with others.
Justice
Students will be aware of bias and injustice, both individual and systemic. They will understand the short-term and long-term impact of injustice. They will also learn about those who have fought for more fairness and justice in our world.
Action
Students will feel confident that they can make a difference in society, and will commit to taking action against bias and injustice, even when it is not popular or easy.
The Bias Response and Education System aims to support an “upstander” culture at Newark Academy through ongoing education about bias. All members of the Newark academy community are encouraged to recognize, interrupt, and report bias-related incidents. The goal is to use the system to provide education and strengthen relationships within the NA community.
