Welcome to SGPGIMS
Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has been established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.It was created by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research of the highest order. The institute is situated in a 550 acres (2.2 square kilometres) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. Lucknow is located about 500km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine and intricate chikan work, a form of fine embroidery.
The Institute provides postgraduate training to medical and nonmedical professionals. The training programmes lead to D.M., M.Ch., M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships, postdoctoral certificate Programmes in various disciplines. In addition, it offers senior residency training programmes. B.Sc. Nursing course and BSc / MSc paramedical technology Programmes in allied sciences are offered by the College of Medical Technology.The Institute is an autonomous body and awards degrees which are recognised by the Medical Council of India. The Institute functions as a State University and is member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by University Grants Commission.

In a landmark achievement for healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, the SGPGIMS. LKO on 13/04/2026 successfully performed the state's first cardiac transplant.
Hon'ble Governor Anandiben Patel commended the team at SGPGIMS on successfully carrying out the state's first cardiac transplant.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also congratulated the SGPGIMS team on achieving UP's first successful cardiac transplant,

SGPGI marked World Hearing Day 2026 with a focused awareness program under the theme
“Communities to Classrooms - Hearing Care for Every Child”
The event highlighted the critical importance of early detection and intervention for childhood hearing loss.
The lab was officially inaugurated by the Institute's Director, Prof. R.K. Dhiman, in the presence of Prof. Devendra Gupta, Chief Medical Superintendent & Prof. Awadhesh Jaiswal, Head of the DepaT. of Neurosurgery
21/02/2026:The Dept. of Maternal & Reproductive Health commemorated its 17th Foundation Day
The Foundation Day ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Shri Amit Kumar Ghosh, Additional Chief Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of UP,
as the Chief Guest and Padma Shri R.K. Dhiman, Director SGPGI whose visionary guidance has played a pivotal role in shaping the institute’s academic and clinical excellence.
On this occasion Padmashri Prof.RK Dhiman congratulated the department for it's consistent growth. The department of MRH is going to start 3year DM course in Maternal and Fetal Medicine.
15/02/2026: Public Awareness Programme along with a State-Level CME & Workshop on Paediatric Oncology Nursing to mark the International Childhood Cancer Day.
The programme was inaugurated by
Padmashree Prof. R.K. Dhiman,
Director, SGPGIMS, in the presence of distinguished guests
Prof. Devendra Gupta (CMS) and Prof. Harshvardhan (MS, SGPGIMS).
The inaugural session
commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Basant Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgical Super Speciality, SGPGIMS.
26/01/2026: 77th Republic Day was celebrated at SGPGIMS, Lucknow
Director SGPGI, Padma Shri Professor Radha Krishna Dhiman, unfurled the National Flag followed by National Anthem. Addressing the faculty members,
officers and staff present on this occasion, he said that Republic Day is not just a commemoration of India's constitutional journey, but is also a testament to its resilience, diversity
and democratic ideals. He said that the major achievement was Institute's NAAC A++ accreditation and fifth rank in NIRF. He elaborated on the successful recruitment process in faculty and non-faculty position.

The 12th Annual Conference of the Society for Emergency Radiology (SERCON 2025) organized by the dept. of Radio diagnosis.
The conference brought together over 500 delegates from across India and abroad under the theme
“From Tears to Twists: Mastering GI and MSK Emergencies.”
The success of SERCON 2025 was attributed to the vision and guidance of Director Padmashree Dr. R. K. Dhiman, the leadership of Organising Chairperson Dr. Archna Gupta, and the meticulous planning of Organising Secretary Dr. Anuradha Singh
