To mark the 125th anniversary of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum (WVM) this month, WDVA Secretary James Bond joined our Museum’s Director, Chris Kolakowski (on right) for the unveiling of the new historical banners on display detailing the museum’s vibrant history. The banners are now on view in the West Gallery of the Wisconsin State Capitol through April 26th.
WDVA Secretary James Bond (pictured in middle) and Jeremy Lyon, Division of Veteran Benefits Administrator (far right), visited the Medical College of Wisconsin's BRAVE Program’s new, expanded clinic space on March 31, 2026. This was their first visit to the new, larger facility, which reflects BRAVE’s growth to added clinical teams and rising demand for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) care among veterans and first responders.
The Easter Bunny visited members living at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in Ainsworth Hall on Sunday, April 5, 2026.
All three Wisconsin Veterans Homes in Chippewa Falls, King, and Union Grove celebrated National Social Workers Month in March by highlighting the caring and dedicated teams of social workers who serve our veterans at each Home.
WDVA received 40,000 Valentine’s for Veterans from around the world – Secretary James Bond visited the Wisconsin Veterans Homes at King and Union Grove to personally hand out gift bags of Valentine’s cards to members on February 12 and 13, 2026.

December 10, 2025, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James Bond presented the Vets Ready awards from Governor Tony Evers to this year’s recipients alongside DWD’s Division of Employment and Training (DET) Administrator Michele Carter. This year, a record 25 businesses across Wisconsin were honored at Moraine Park Technical College in West Bend.

On December 9, 2025, Secretary James Bond presented a certificate to Duane ‘Pete’ Kopp for his hundredth birthday celebration. Pete is an Army veteran who served in the Pacific theater in World War II and received a Purple Heart for his service. We wish Pete the happiest of birthdays!

On December 7, 2025, AMVETS DEPARTMENT of WISCONSIN Post 7 in Oshkosh held a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony, marking 84 years since the attack. Secretary James Bond joined to honor all who served there, with a special focus on the Wisconsin service members who were present that day. More than 200 Wisconsinites were stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Base and aboard ships that fateful day.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs was created in 1945 to consolidate separate veterans programs under one agency. Today, the WDVA provides grants and a variety of services to eligible Wisconsin veterans and their families.
