Fostering Labour Peace in Education
The Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) is a bargaining council that serves the public education sector in South Africa.
Our primary function is to promote labour peace through dispute resolution and prevention services. We also facilitate negotiations between trade unions and the state as the employer.
Conciliation, arbitration, and mediation to help resolve conflicts in the public education sector.
Responsible for addressing issues specific to each province and ensuring that labour peace is maintained throughout the country.
The ELRC plays a crucial role in developing and implementing collective agreements that address various issues affecting educators and the education system.
We operate within the framework of South African labour laws and regulations to facilitate collective bargaining and dispute resolution in the public education sector.

Organisational Structure
The Council has a well-defined organisational structure, with programs focused on collective bargaining, dispute management and administration services.

The Council employs sound communication strategies to support and complement its core activities, including advertising, social media marketing and stakeholder engagement.

We actively engage with various education stakeholders, including teacher unions, the Department of Basic Education, and provincial education departments, to promote collaboration and effective service delivery.
