2025 IDEM Annual Report
The
2025 IDEM Annual Report [PDF]
is now available. The report highlights significant environmental progress made throughout Indiana, outlining achievements in air quality, land protection, water resources, and key performance indicators that reflect the agency’s commitment to safeguarding Hoosiers and the environment. The report also provides an overview of major initiatives, permitting performance, statewide monitoring efforts, and the work of IDEM’s nearly 800 employees who serve communities across all 92 counties.
Debris Management for Recent Storm Victims
IDEM advises residents affected by the recent storms and tornadoes to exercise caution when managing debris. Debris can pose a risk to health and safety if not handled properly. IDEM has fact sheets to help Hoosiers safely dispose of tornado or storm debris and other household items, such as cleaning supplies, lawn chemicals and other hazardous substances.

Funding Opportunity: CWA(319) Grants for Water Quality Improvements
The Nonpoint Source Program is now accepting proposals for FY2027 Clean Water Act Section 319 grants. Eligible applicants include local governments, nonprofit organizations, universities, and other groups committed to restoring and protecting Indiana’s waterways. Projects may focus on watershed planning, best management practice (BMP) implementation, education and outreach, or other innovative approaches to reducing nonpoint source pollution. Due Date for Notice of Intent: June 1, 2026; Application Deadline: September 1, 2026
Hoosiers May Qualify for Free Well Water Testing through IDEM
Although private well water is unregulated by both the IDEM and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, IDEM's Office of Water Quality Drinking Water Branch periodically collects water samples from qualified private residential drinking water wells for the Groundwater Monitoring Network survey. To be considered, property owners must:
Reside in Indiana and have an active, private residential drinking water well;
Ensure the well is listed in the
Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Online Water Well Record Database
Be able to provide IDEM with a copy of their water well record.
If the property owner does not have a copy in their personal records, IDEM will attempt to locate it in the DNR Online Well Record Database
Complete the online GWMN survey,
surveymonkey.com/r/gwmn2026
, no later than June 1, 2026.
Deadline Reminder for Water/Wastewater Facilities
Senate Enrolled Act 459
mandates cybersecurity measures for certain water and wastewater facilities. Remember to conduct your first vulnerability assessment and submit a certification by
December 31, 2026.

IDEM Report on Evaluation of Existing Regulations
Governor Mike Braun issued a series of executive orders to streamline Indiana's environmental regulation approach, including
Executive Order 25-38
. EO 25-38 directs agencies responsible for environmental regulations to "identify state environmental regulations and policies that are unduly burdensome, significantly raise the cost of living for Hoosiers, are not supported by current law and the best available science, or do not benefit Indiana's environment."
EO 25-38 established that relevant agencies should "report opportunities to revisit or rescind such state environmental regulations to the Governor's Office no later than July 1, 2025."
