Recreating History
Thomas E. Watson purchased the house that he would christen “Hickory Hill” in 1900. Watson extensively renovated the home before occupying it in 1904. He added the impressive portico, numerous Greek revival elements, and extended the rear of the home. The side porches were added around 1912.

As a child, Thomas Edward Watson set himself a lofty goal - to become "one of the first men of the state". It set him on a path that led to a career as an attorney, author, politician, publisher and, most significantly, an avowed populist. His home is a testament to his continuing contributions to Southern culture.
