BARC West campus houses the administration building for NEA and BARC offices as well as laboratories, greenhouses and environmental facilities. A wide variety of research projects are conducted including fruit and vegetable improvement, cropping systems, plant disease agents, insect pests, genomics, environmental studies and human nutrition.
The Pasture Systems and Watershed Management Research Unit (PSWMRU, University Park, PA) operates Mahantango Creek Experimental Watershed, as an outdoor laboratory to study agricultural management and hydrologic processes.
Sorting Atlantic salmon at the National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center: Franklin, ME. Research addresses genetic improvement, growth and development, health, and sustainable production systems for Atlantic salmon and for cold water marine finfish species.
Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville West Virginia, home of Innovative Fruit Production, Improvement and Protection.
Traditional breeding and biotechnology strategies are used to improve the quality, productivity and disease resistance of apple, pear and stone fruits.
Since completion by the CCC in 1937, the Log Lodge has served a variety of functions including CCC recreation, USDA VIP luncheons (Khrushev 1959, Eisenhower, etc), Presidential card games (Roosevelt), Center cafeteria, BARC Visitor Center and ARS National Visitor Center. Since 2014, the lodge has been used for meetings and conferences.
Dairy area of the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) In Beltsville MD (circa 1980) . Projects at the dairy facility include feeding studies, breeding, increasing milk production, waste management and bovine diseases. The 7000 acre farm also has laboratories studying poultry, bees, goats and pigs.
