National Institute for Health and Care Research
(NIHR)

The goal for the AHSC was to make new scientific discoveries and shorten the time to turn them into effective treatments to deliver benefits for patients locally and around the world.
Greater Manchester Academic Health Science and Innovation System
The MAHSC discovery and translation strategy is delivered by
domains
bringing together our academic partners and NHS Trusts.
The domains are: Cancer, Cardiovascular & Diabetes, Inflammation and Repair, Mental Health, Neuroscience, Women & Children and Applied Health and Care.
Crucially, research projects undertaken via MAHSC and GM’s other research bodies are pulled through
HInM’s innovation pathway
to provide a rich pipeline of evidence-based innovations that can be deployed at pace and scale. It means we can make real fast-tracked improvements to the health of local people and beyond.

Medicine

GM performance in clinical trials
The Clinical Research Network Greater Manchester deliver health and care research studies across Greater Manchester, East Cheshire, and East Lancashire. The region supports research access to over three million people and works with community, primary, social and secondary care and public health providers.
In the last 9 years the CRN have supported over half a million GM residents to participate in research. By 2024, the CRN GM will have provided £193,496,147 infrastructure funding since 2014 to local care organisations.
