With a 6:1 student-teacher ratio, Rumsey ensures each student receives personalized attention and meaningful support.

Rumsey becomes a home away from home for our students, a place where they feel safe to take appropriate risks, and where they create family bonds with each other and with our faculty. Built on positive and joyful relationships, the Blue Dog community cultivates a culture where it’s cool to do the right thing, underpinned by values of respect, honesty and kindness.
Rumsey’s beloved Red vs. Blue tradition is an all-school competition that builds pride, teamwork, and lasting memories through friendly challenges throughout the year.
Boarding Life
Our junior boarding program creates meaningful shared experiences, lifelong memories, and countless opportunities for students to build independence and character. We strongly believe in the transformative power of boarding at this profound time in a child’s life, where they can learn self-advocacy, independence, and resilience within a supportive and joyful environment.
Rumsey brings together students from 25 local communities, 14 states, and 10 countries, creating a truly diverse and welcoming school community.

Academics are balanced by a vibrant array of extracurriculars. Our students learn to lead full, healthy lives as they participate in Athletics, the Arts, and beyond, discovering who they are and what they have a passion for along the way.

Our 331-acre campus in the Litchfield Hills of Washington Depot, CT offers a safe, beautiful setting where children live active, healthy childhoods immersed in nature. Classrooms are open to the outdoors, blending indoor and outdoor learning. Facilities include 7 athletic fields, 2 gyms, hockey rink, indoor crew tanks, trails, climbing wall, and 7 tennis courts (3 indoor, 4 outdoor).
