Common Sense On The Issues
Foreign Policy

The Libertarian Party opposes all acts of aggression — including those committed by
governments in the name of "national interest." We believe war is almost always the
health of the state and the enemy of the individual. We call for an immediate end to
all foreign military occupations, the closure of overseas military bases, and a foreign
policy built on peace, trade, and diplomacy rather than threats and bombs.
No undeclared wars. No nation-building. No more sending our sons and daughters to die
for the ambitions of politicians.
Fiscal Policy

Should Be Voluntary
Taxation is the taking of property by force. Every dollar collected in taxes is a
dollar taken under threat of imprisonment — there is nothing voluntary about it.
Libertarians believe that every person has the right to keep the fruits of their
labor. Government services should be funded voluntarily, through user fees,
charitable giving, and free-market alternatives. We oppose income taxes, property
taxes, and all forms of involuntary wealth transfer.

The national debt is a moral issue as much as an economic one — it is a burden
silently imposed on future generations who never voted for it. Libertarians demand
an immediate, binding balanced budget amendment with teeth: no deficit spending,
no accounting tricks, no kicking the can. Cut spending across the board, eliminate
unconstitutional federal programs, and end corporate welfare. Every dollar the
government borrows is a future tax on your children.
Immigration Reform
Let peaceful people
immigrate freely
We welcome immigrants who come seeking a better life and a truly free market requires the free movement of people, not just products and ideas.
Libertarians do not support classifying undocumented immigrants as criminals. Our current immigration system is an embarrassment.
People who would like to follow the legal procedures are unable to because these procedures are so complex and expensive and lengthy.
If Americans want immigrants to enter through legal channels, we need to make those channels fair, reasonable, and accessible.
Drug Legalization
Decriminalize all drugs
The War on Drugs is a war on all of us.
The Libertarian Party will work to bring an immediate end to the War on Drugs, reform the drug-related criminal justice system,
and focus on rehabilitation for addicts in lieu of typical punitive measures that do not solve root problems while encouraging
those with problems to hide them instead of seeking help.
Substance abuse is a legitimate problem, but it's a medical issue and not a legal one.

What We Believe
As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign
over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of
others. We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free
and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that
only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized. Consequently, we defend each
person's right to engage in any activity that is peaceful and honest, and welcome the
diversity that freedom brings. The world we seek to build is one where individuals are free
to follow their own dreams in their own ways, without interference from government or any
authoritarian power.

Non-Aggression
The most basic principle of the Libertarian Party is that you should never use violence
or the threat of violence. Force is only justified when necessary for self-defense.
This principle applies to individuals, groups, and governments.

Property Rights
You have the right to the fruits of your labor and your justly acquired property.
We oppose all government interference with private property, such as confiscation,
nationalization, and eminent domain, and support the prohibition of robbery, trespass,
fraud, and misrepresentation.

Self-Ownership
You own yourself. No one has a higher claim to your life than you, and no one can run
your life better than you. Libertarians believe that no government or collective should
interfere with your life as long as you're not infringing on the rights of others.

The Libertarian Party believes that no group or government has more rights than any
individual. We believe that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition
for a free and prosperous world, that only through freedom can peace and prosperity
be realized.
