Two Legacies, One Future School of Medicine
New Jersey Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School are preparing for full Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation to create the Rutgers School of Medicine. As we work to integrate these two historic campuses, we're building a stronger medical education program well-equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
With an anticipated accreditation in 2027, the future Rutgers School of Medicine is poised to be one of the largest medical schools in the nation and an unparalleled hub of biomedical and health sciences education, research, and care.

Medical Science Building Renovation Project
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School has embarked on an exciting renovation project to update and modernize the school's Medical Science Building. The 630,000-square-foot structure is the central hub of the NJMS campus and the school's nationally recognized research efforts.

Incorporation papers are filed to establish the Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (SHCMD) as the state's first medical school.

1955
Charles L. Brown, MD, is appointed founding dean of SHCMD and leads an initiative to attract outstanding faculty to the new school.

The four-year medical program at SHCMD receives full accreditation from the American Medical Association.

The school is renamed as the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry (NJCMD).
