Why Should We Legalise Cannabis?
Reduce harm
The criminalisation of cannabis use is a decades old, failed policy that disproportionately harms young and indigenous people and leads to massive upheaval in the lives of otherwise law abiding citizens.
Create jobs
Legalising and regulating cannabis will bring one of the nation’s largest cash crops under the rule of law. This will create jobs and economic opportunities in the formal economy instead of the illicit market.
Save money
Scarce law enforcement resources will be better used to ensure public safety while reducing corrections and court costs. Governments would acquire significant new sources of revenue from regulating cannabis sales.
Promote consumer safety
Cannabis product testing is becoming a standard requirement for legalised cannabis markets. This means consumers are better informed about the cannabis they use.
