As a NON PROFIT educational organization the American School of Tegucigalpa (AST) accepts donations from businesses and sponsors in order to further promote school improvements. Donations are channeled through the Development Office year after year. Both monetary donations and donations in kind are accepted. The most recent project was the renovation of our new artificial soccer turf.

The American School of Tegucigalpa, founded in 1946, is one of the original bilingual schools of Honduras and it serves students from 39 nations. Our infrastructure is divided in four schools : Pre-School, Elementary School, Middle School and High School.

Our Pre-School is always buzzing with creative and engaging learning activities. Children learn in a safe and disciplined environment in which respect to one-self, school and others is greatly valued.

Our Elementary School provides an integrated curriculum in order for students to be able to make connections between new content and previous knowledge. Teachers design units of study based on program enduring understandings and essential questions.

Our Middle School uses a system of learning which encourages Cooperative Learning, as studies show positive results in student engagement and motivation when learning activities are presented in small groups.

The American School of Tegucigalpa offers students the opportunity to earn a total of three diplomas upon completion of their high school careers: the American School of Tegucigalpa High School diploma, the Honduran Bachillerato, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma.

Total enrollment at AST for the 2023-2024 school year is 1057 students. Approximately 9% of the students are US citizens, 87% are Honduran and 4% of other nationalities.

Our Athletic Department has developed a program which supports the fostering of athletic skills and fundamentals in the four core sports starting with Pre-School level students. Extra-curricular programs like Eagle Tots, Eagle League and Eagle Cup help our future Junior Varsity and Varsity athletes have a strong base from which to build upon.

The Pre-School curriculum was designed after the Creative Curriculum System for Pre School. Thematic units of study are taught using strategies which include daily activity centers focusing on skills rather than content.

We use an integrated literacy program in the Elementary School as an instructional platform for all grade level curricula. The program is based on the Comprehensive Early Literacy Learning (CELL/ExLL) framework.

The Middle School course offerings are characterized by a special elective activity program, age-appropriate methodology, and schedules, faculty, and facilities exclusively designated for the Middle School.
