Principal's Welcome
I am pleased to be able to welcome you to the website of St John Paul II College – Gungahlin’s catholic secondary school for all.
JPC is a high school in its 13
th
year developing traditions and a culture of welcome, mutual respect and obligation. The College values embracing difference and being a place where young people may grow in integrity, capacity and understanding and faithfulness.
The school exists to keep people safe, to provide opportunities for an excellent education and for our community to know and love Jesus.
Our strategy for doing this is to address child safety, to attached staff who fully embrace policy and who contribute to a safe culture and to work with community agencies in areas of protection, mental health and wellness.
Excellence in education is measured by individual student achievement. It is ensured through the attraction, retention and investment in teachers who are not only experts in the classroom but who bring generosity, collegiality, positivity and innovation to our culture of learning. Our staff are at the heart of the success of our school.
Our faith life offers the full experience of the Catholic Church in teaching, Eucharist, tradition and prayer. Opportunities for Christian meditation, service, community engagement and dialogue of other faith traditions are part of the JPC experience.
People of other faiths or indeed of no faith tradition are welcomed, embraced, respected and fully recognised as complete members of our community. Difference is central to context, understanding and maturity.
People like coming to this school. There are many opportunities for you to find your place here, to grow in a sense of shared belonging and to discover your best self, to make friends and to be happy.
I am excited for 2026.

Captains’ Welcome
The start of a new school year invites us to pause, refocus, and look ahead with confidence. As we enter 2026, we do so with an appreciation for the community we share and a continued commitment to the values that guide us as a school. This year, our focus is on strengthening school spirit and fostering meaningful connections, ensuring that every member of our community feels welcomed, respected, and valued. A key priority is listening to student voice, implementing positive change, and reassuring all students that their perspectives are acknowledged and valued.
We strive to make 2026 a year of enjoyment, achievement, and active engagement, and we encourage everyone to become involved both within the school and the wider community. As the year unfolds, we challenge ourselves to approach each day with confidence, kindness, and a strong sense of mutual support. Please be assured that the leadership team remains committed to supporting students through any challenges they may face, both within and beyond the school environment.
We look forward to the achievements and experiences that lie ahead and wish our school community a year defined by growth, unity, and shared pride.
