Our Mission – The Independent Network
The Independent Network exists to champion, strengthen, and support independent voices in local democracy.
Standing as an independent councillor or candidate takes courage, commitment, and a deep belief in serving your community. Yet too often independents face that journey alone, without the structure, resources, or support systems that political parties provide. The Independent Network was created to change that.
Our mission is to ensure that no independent stands alone.
We are building a national community where independent councillors and candidates can come together in a safe, supportive, and empowering environment. A place where experience is shared, knowledge is passed on, and confidence grows.
Through collaboration and mutual support, we help independents turn determination into effective leadership.
Empowering Independent Leadership
The Independent Network provides training, guidance, and practical support designed specifically for independent representatives. Our training sessions help members develop the skills they need to campaign effectively, navigate council systems, communicate with confidence, and serve their communities with integrity.
But we offer more than training.
We offer a community built on trust, encouragement, and shared purpose. A space where members can ask questions, learn from one another, and grow together as leaders.

Independent councillors bring something unique to public life — authentic local representation, independence of thought, and accountability directly to the communities they serve.
By supporting independent candidates and councillors at every stage of their journey, the Independent Network is helping to strengthen local democracy and ensure that communities continue to have strong, independent voices.

Be a councillor programme
Online Candidate School 2026
We welcome you to 2026 candidate school, We will talk through an introduction to Councils, the trials and tribulations of being an Independent councillor and what support is available. We met twice weekly for our Candidate School and the course will be finished in time for the pre-election period. By the end of the course you will have an understanding about the process of the election period and how to approach your campaign.
This course with be on Zoom. Access from ten mins before the start so we can start promptly
