A Message from the Director
Leadership, vision, and the journey of IIT Hyderabad
Prof. B S Murty
Director, IIT Hyderabad
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH).
“Inventing and Innovating in Technology for Humanity (IITH)”
is more than just a motto for IIT Hyderabad; it is the philosophy that defines our identity.
As an institute, we are committed to pushing the frontiers of knowledge while ensuring that
our ideas and innovations directly benefit people, industries, and the nation.
We are proud of preparing dynamic leaders who make a difference to the world, nurtured
with the skills required for a better tomorrow. Though IITH has completed only 17 years
of its existence, it is gratifying to note that we are already almost on par with some
of the first-generation IITs, standing at the forefront of nurturing talent and innovation.
The academic and research vibrancy of IITH is reflected in
NIRF-2025
, where we achieved
7th rank among Engineering institutes
,
6th in Innovation
,
15th in Research
,
and
12th Overall
.
Internationally, IITH is ranked
664 in QS World University Rankings-2026
,
placing us among the top 10% of global institutions in citations per faculty.
With a student strength of over
5,750+
across UG, PG, and PhD programs
(60% PG+PhD), we continue to lead in curriculum innovation—introducing India’s first
BTech in Artificial Intelligence
.
Our
Open to All Teaching (OAT)
initiative and newly launched recording
studio strengthen our commitment to digital and inclusive education.
At IITH, research and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. We have supported
320+ startups
, launched the
BUILD
program, and recently introduced
BHARATI
, engaging 660 first-year students under 90 faculty mentors
in hands-on engineering experiences.
Our ambitious initiative,
“Patent a Day: Mission 365”
,
reflects our focus on translational research.
IITH has filed
580+ patents
so far,
including
210+ in the last year alone
.
We now host
30+ Centres and Centres of Excellence
supporting impactful research and industry collaboration.
Internationally, we have established strategic partnerships across seven countries,
including Japan, Australia, the USA, and Europe—reflecting our commitment to
global excellence.
Our alumni continue to inspire us through leadership in civil services,
entrepreneurship, social impact, and philanthropy.
As India advances through initiatives such as
Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, Atmanirbhar Bharat
,
and the
Amrit Kaal Vision 2047
,
IITH proudly aligns its efforts with national priorities.
Guided by the philosophy of
“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”
,
we actively contribute to inclusive and sustainable development,
especially through our Rural Development Centre initiatives.
Looking ahead to
Viksit Bharat @2047
,
we aspire to position IIT Hyderabad as a hub of deep-tech research,
transformative education, and human-centred innovation.
I invite all stakeholders—students, faculty, staff, researchers,
industry partners, and alumni—to join us in this exciting journey
of national development and global impact.

Innovations @ IITH
From Lab to Impact
National Firsts in 3D Printing
IITH, in collaboration with Simpliforge Creations, has delivered two national firsts, India’s first on-site 3D-printed protective structure in Leh with Lt Col Arun Krishnan & India’s first 3D-printed pedestrian bridge, conceptualized and evaluated by Prof K V L Subramaniam & his research group.
Autonomous Campus Shuttle
TiHAN at IITH has developed an autonomous campus shuttle, a driverless electric vehicle designed to operate within campus roads. Equipped with LiDAR, cameras, GPS, and AI-based navigation, it can detect obstacles, follow predefined routes, and ensure passenger safety with features like automatic braking.
Advanced System-on-Chip for IoT and Satellite Communication
Prof Kiran Kuchi of IIT Hyderabad, in collaboration with WiSig Networks, has developed an advanced System-on-Chip that enables reliable, low-power connectivity for the Internet of Things and next-generation satellite communication. The chip supports precise positioning through GNSS and India’s NavIC system and can intelligently process sensor data in real time. Designed to be compact and energy-efficient, it helps extend battery life in connected devices, highlighting IITH’s contribution to building indigenous, future-ready communication technologies for global use.
6G Research and Innovations
6G research led by Prof Kiran Kuchi in collaboration with WiSig Networks is working on 6G innovations built on WiSig’s open and programmable future network architecture, focusing on energy-efficient, AI-ready radio access networks with intelligent massive MIMO, advanced waveforms for next-generation frequency bands, integrated sensing and communication for applications such as UAV detection, post-quantum security solutions, and the development of broadband modem System-on-Chip technologies for future wireless networks.
Synthetic Cornea Development
Dr Viswanath Chinthapenta, Prof Ramji M, Dr Sayan Basu (LVPEI) are working in partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute to study the sutureability of the natural cornea. These findings provide fundamental insights into key design criteria for a synthetic cornea.
PURE Energy Ltd
PURE Energy Ltd by Dr Nishanth Dongari & Rohit Vadera, is India's 1st All-In-One Energy Storage Products for Home & Commercial Segments.
DIGIPIN
IITH, Department of Posts, and NRSC (ISRO) Collaborated to Launch DIGIPIN: A National-Scale Geospatial Addressing System for India, developed by Dr Shashank Vatedka, Prof Soumya Jana & Dr Lakshmi Prasad Natarajan, Tarandeep Singh, a former MTech (AI) student.
DIGIPIN
TiHAN at IITH has developed Palyanka, a heavy-payload autonomous air ambulance drone capable of carrying up to 200 kg for rapid medical evacuation, disaster rescue and cargo transport. Designed to operate without human intervention, it offers lifesaving mobility in traffic-clogged cities and difficult terrains.
