OPEN MORNING
I hope you find Reading Blue Coat to be a gem of a site as well as a wonderfully happy and progressive school. To be kind and engaged is what we expect of every member of our community. Kind to one another and to ourselves, and engaged with learning and the wealth of opportunities that can be enjoyed in and away from the classroom.
Head’s welcome

Academic
The academic life of the School is defined by its commitment to excellence and sharing of high expectations. The teaching staff are highly adept at getting the most from pupils at different stages in their academic development.
Wellbeing
Our School is a warm and nurturing community, offering an excellent environment for young people to grow and to learn. We provide a rich and thoughtful pastoral curriculum, giving pupils an opportunity to explore ideas, values, and relationships. In everything we do, we aim for every pupil to feel happy, safe, and fulfilled.
Co-curricular
In our new Adventure Education programme, pupils enjoy time away from the classroom to learn valuable lessons in leadership, communication and resilience, as well as exploring the wide world in a variety of ways.
🌍 #EarthDay 2026 at Reading Blue Coat
Sustainability is part of everyday life at RBC and today is a good moment to pause and think about the small choices we make.
Across our School, these include initiatives like reducing water use and taking advantage of the borehole and student-led projects from planting trees to tackling food waste.
You don’t need to do everything. Just start somewhere:
🛍️Bring a reusable bag
♻️Pick up litter on your walk
☀️Spend time outdoors
💡Switch things off when you leave a room
Tonight’s idea: switch off for an hour. No screens. Just a book, a board game or a good chat.
Nothing drastic. Just better choices 🌱

Science Club swapped the classroom for a hard hat tour at the end of term, heading behind the scenes of our new Performing Arts Centre 👷♂️
Students explored the construction site and saw how ideas around energy and sustainability are being put into practice. It brought their current studies to life in a really tangible way, with plenty to take back into the classroom.

Easter holiday campers enjoyed plenty of fresh air, storytelling and a bit of adventure here at Reading Blue Coat 🌿📖
Through our Nature to Narrative creative writing course, outdoor challenges and teamwork fed straight into their writing, with ideas sparked by everything around them.
Author Iszi Lawrence was a real highlight, bringing Tudor England and Ancient Egypt to life and getting students creating their own stories, even writing letters as Henry VIII.
A close up Birds of Prey experience added something completely different, with Fagin the Western Screech Owl, Luke Skywalker the Little Owl, Pumba the Tawny Owl, cute Toodles the Indian Scops Owl and Noddy the European Kestrel - just some of the memorable visitors who quickly found their way into the children`s writing 🦉
