At YCDS, we prioritize a genuine, student-centered educational approach that fosters a deep love for learning. Students pursue their academic, artistic, and athletic passions while engaging collaboratively with highly trained faculty and their peers. Through cross-divisional experiences and diverse learning opportunities, students develop a strong sense of identity and community values.
What Are The Hallmarks of An Independent School Education at YCDS?
Several factors fuel the YCDS student’s enthusiasm for learning. At the center is the school's intentional and dynamic curriculum that incorporates project-based learning aligned with five signature programs.
STEAM program:
This program integrates the teaching of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities for academics and the arts. Cross-curricular opportunities foster creativity and collaboration, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience that prepares students for future success.
Service Learning program:
The Service Learning program incorporates hands-on learning that promotes community engagement and service.
Capstone 5812 program:
The Capstone 5812 program provides a platform for students in grades 5, 8, and 12 to engage in passion-based culminating projects that mark the completion of their respective lower, middle, and upper school journeys. These projects are designed to challenge students academically and encourage them to apply critical thinking, creativity, and interdisciplinary approaches to real-world problems. The Capstone 5812 program empowers students to explore their interests deeply, fostering a sense of accomplishment and readiness for the next phase of their educational journey.
Wellness program:
In this segment, students acquire skills necessary to develop and strengthen their emotional and physical health. From our youngest early learners to the grade 12 students, we believe in the
power of play
to foster social skills, creativity, and a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
College Connect program:
Students preparing for advanced education avail themselves of classes, workshops, and other learning opportunities in the College Connect program. All Upper School students graduate with at least 12 college credits from York College of Pennsylvania. This extensive elective base and class offerings provide students with opportunities and experiences found only in higher education.
