Gould Academy Names Daniel McDermott as New Head Boys Soccer Coach and History Teacher
Deep in the mountains of Maine, Gould is an independent boarding school for grades 9-12, Postgraduate, and Winter Term for grades 7-8. More than a school, Gould is an adventure offering a dynamic blend of challenging academics, competitive sports, and hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for the real world.
Learn about Gould’s vision
90% of Gould Students are in Snow Sports Programs during the winter season. Gould provides some of the best training and most reliable snow in the East, thanks to our distinctive partnership with Sunday River Resort—home to Kailey Snow Sports Center and Program, only six miles from campus.

Negotiate Complex Systems And Relationships
Surrounded by mountains and rivers, Gould’s campus is an outdoor classroom and home to Nordic and mountain biking trails on Pine Hill, a working farm, a dedicated visual arts cottage, as well as numerous academic buildings, dorms, faculty homes, and sports fields.
With a 6:1 teacher-to-student ratio, small class sizes, personalized attention, and a close-knit community, you won’t have to stand out to be seen.
Rooted in tradition, with a clear vision for the future, Gould has been guiding students in the mountains of Maine for nearly two centuries.
From alpine gates to Nordic trails, half of Gould students train and compete in snow sports at a high level.
A tight-knit global community where every student makes an impact.
Gould graduates leave prepared for what’s next, with the self-confidence to thrive in college and beyond.
The partnership that sets Gould apart. World-class skiing and riding, with the most reliable snow in the East, minutes from campus. Gould’s slopeside Kailey Snow Sports Center is our home base at the bottom of our training venues and dedicated surface lift. Nine peaks of adventure, all winter long.
Alumni- and parent-owned, locally loved. Coffee, bagels, pastries, and community, just steps away. Students enjoy popping in with friends between classes regularly.
Time for movie night! The Gem screens first-run films, hosts live music, spoken-word events, and brings Bethel’s creative community together under one roof. A favorite weekend activity for students looking to grab some popcorn and catch a flick, or even perform at an open mic!
Home to the largest collection of lunar and Martian meteorites on Earth, right here in Bethel. A world-class museum with a Maine-sized sense of wonder. Student scientists reap the rewards regularly, collaborating with MM&GM’s world-class geologists in their place-based science classes.
Just a short drive from campus, Songo Pond is Gould’s launching point for science research and springtime adventure. Students run water quality tests, pilot ROVs, and brave the icy water for the first Polar Bear plunge of the season.
Just steps from campus, the Bethel Resorts course was designed by renowned architect Geoffrey Cornish. Their 6,663-yard, par-72 golf course leverages the stunning mountain vistas and natural splendor of the area. With tree-lined fairways, natural hazards, well-trapped greens, and five tee positions, the course ensures an exhilarating challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
