About Mannafields Christian School
Up until closure (after 38 years of operation) the school provided a high quality curriculum that followed all the guidelines for the National Curriculum for Excellence in:
Numeracy and Mathematics;
Literacy and English;
Sciences;
Modern and Classical Languages (French, Latin and also Korean);
Health and Wellbeing (PE, Food, Life Skills);
Social studies and Technology
Religious studies.
Our curriculum was permeated with the character and Word of God, giving our young people preparation for life in the “real world”.
The learning and teaching pedagogy is classically oriented, and with our smaller class sizes, each pupil received a high standard of academic skills where their talents and abilities are developed, while equipping then with the knowledge and skills necessary for adulthood.
Our approach is to value pupils from all backgrounds and operate parent-run establishments, which ensures a great family atmosphere in any school.
Our aim is that all parents who wish their child to receive a Christ-centred, quality education should be able to do so, regardless of their financial situation.
To this end, we offered bursaries to those who need them.
Parent’s Comments…
Rachel
As a parent of a child who attended Mannafields Christian School, I have benefited a lot. My character was changed just by seeing and experiencing the kindness of the Mannafields community. Not to mention praying for each other. I am was often amused by the questions that my daughter comes up with when we manage to get the time to read the Bible together. Her insight, her asking appropriate questions and her thoughts on the text increase my insight too. This was encouraged by Mr Taylor’s Friday assemblies which were liked by the pupils – and to think of how long he has been committed to the work, it’s just a blessing. My daughter has developed her knowledge of God and continues to grow in her faith. I believe this is true for all pupils, as it came through their conversations as they played, even outside school. As a parent, I found people who are very kind and thoughtful in their words and actions.

We have indeed found Mannafields to be a secure, nurturing environment that backed up the teaching and morals we have at home. It was in no way a bubble, but strove to prepare the children to live in the world for Christ. We appreciated the personal concern the teachers have for our children as individuals and the way they cared for their needs yet pushed them to do their best and to honour God.
Emma
I attended Mannafields Christian School from P1 in 1991 until the end of S2 in 2001. To this day I remain thankful for the friendships I made and the teachers and staff who contributed to my education. My siblings attended the school and my parents were involved in many different roles; like most families in the school community they were deeply devoted to the cause of Christian Education and volunteered their time and skills to build the foundations of Mannafields, not just for their own children but for generations to come.
In the first few years of my schooling Mannafields was based at Carberry Tower Estate in East Lothian. It was here that I formed some of my earliest friendships – people who I remain close to more than 30 years later.

Our three children attended Mannafields from Primary 1 upwards. They all benefited greatly from the small class sizes that facilitated individualised learning. The teachers knew each of them so well, and were therefore able to provide the right level of challenge within all the various subjects, providing additional support when needed and stretching them academically for subjects in which they excel.
Why Christian Education?
Today, more than ever before, we can see that education is not neutral. Whether State or Private school, we are witnessing that the direction of travel is often geared towards a secular perspective, and quite often opposed to a Christian worldview.
Ultimately every Christian parent provides a level of Christian Education for his or her child to draw them closer to God. So why not extend this further by using a school where explaining the Bible, praying, providing love, nurture and discipline, along with a full and rounded curriculum, are being taught?
Ethos
School should be a place where God and His Word take central place. We seek to know God’s Word and God’s world.

Support Mannafields
We look back in amazement and gratitude at what has been provided since the school opened.
Our first ever donation was £40 in March 1988 and literally hundreds of thousands of pounds have been donated since then, ranging from sums of 50p from a child’s pocket money to £17,000 when a Dutch school sold surplus property.
Without such giving the school would not have been able to operate to all who seek Christian education.
Although the school is closed the association will continue to promote Christian education and we hope one day to open another school. If you wish to support us please consider donating to the work the Association.
