In a special assembly, we came together as a school community to celebrate Mr Thomas, our Senior Master, as he prepares to retire this July after 44 years of exceptional service to St Benedict's.
Since joining St Benedict's in 1982 as a teacher of German, Mr Thomas has made an extraordinary contribution to every aspect of school life. From his years as Upper 4 Division Head to his roles as Director of Co-curriculum, Director of Music, Acting Director of Sport and, most recently, Senior Master, his leadership has helped shape the experience of generations of students.
Many of the traditions that define St Benedict's today have been shaped by his vision and dedication from the much-loved Molveno trip and the longstanding partnership with our Benedictine school in Meschede, to the development of the House system and the founding of the PAFTIES. His commitment to broadening horizons has also taken students across the world, including cricket tours to Sri Lanka, alongside meaningful charitable initiatives that continue to make a real difference.
Mr Thomas's impact is felt not only in these enduring contributions, but in the countless students he has guided, inspired and supported over more than four decades.
We thank him for his unwavering commitment to the school and the wider community, and wish him every happiness in his upcoming retirement.
