Middle School
Valwood’s Middle School offers a three-year program, including grades six, seven, and eight, dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, as well as the intellectual and moral development of students. The middle school years represent a bridge between the security of a teacher-centered Lower School and the rigors of a subject-centered Upper School. Teachers work together to address social, emotional, and academic challenges faced by students during early adolescence.

Upper School
Upper School begins an exciting period in a student’s life. Grades begin to count for college admission, but perhaps more importantly, students are being prepared to succeed in college. In addition, the Upper School offers many opportunities for challenge, service, and competition in which students discover who they are, and who they want to be.

Valwood Voices
My heavy AP course load at Valwood made my first three years at Clemson University a breeze! Within the first few weeks of my marketing and economics degree, I could tell that I was significantly more prepared for college academics than my peers. I already knew how to study, give presentations, communicate professionally with professors, and manage a heavy course load.

Valwood Voices
Valwood was a formative part of my education, and I have carried the lessons I learned there into college, my career, and life. The teachers knew me as an individual and pushed me to reach my potential, while the small class sizes created a close-knit, supportive environment. Those same qualities are why my wife and I chose Valwood for our daughter. As a first grader, she
is
already benefiting from the same personal attention and caring community that shaped me.

Valwood Voices
Valwood honestly prepared me so well for college. I took multiple Honors and AP classes, and while they were definitely tough, I’m really glad I took them. They helped me feel prepared for my classes at UGA. The teachers were always there if I needed help, which made a big difference. Homework and studying hard for AP tests felt like a lot at the time, but it made college feel way less overwhelming. I didn’t feel behind at all going into UGA—I actually felt really prepared.
