IB Internationally Focused, Holistic Approach
Multilingualism
The IB emphasizes language acquisition for cultural understanding, cognitive development, and global communication.
All Wellspring students are required to take Arabic as a 2
nd
language until MYP grade 10. Depending on nationality, students will be enrolled in either Modern Standard Arabic or Arabic as a foreign language (AFL). Placement depends on meeting the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) regulations and documentation.
As “non Lebanese” students enter MYP Grade 6, they may change their 3
rd
language choice to Spanish, French or Arabic until grade 12.
French is Wellspring’s 3rd foreign language and a requirement for all students in the PYP programme. Wellspring’s French language curriculum has been approved by CELFA (Linguistic Label of the Embassy of France) in Liban. Students will also have the opportunity to sit for official Certificates of Proficiency at Institut Français du Liban Certificates.
Wellspring MYP or DP students may study Spanish as their 3rd language choice from grades 6-12. Depending on existing language competency, students are placed in different phases and may be given the opportunity to sit for a proficiency certificate. These certificates are issued by the official Instituto Cervantes which is an official public Spanish institution in Beirut.

Visual and Performing Art
The arts foster critical thinking, complex problem solving and creativity which translates to better performance
PYP Art is an inquiry-based component of the IB framework, fostering creativity, cultural understanding, and self-expression. It focuses on the “process” over the “product,” encouraging students to respond to art, develop technical skills, and connect their learning to transdisciplinary units of inquiry.
PYP Arts are foundational skills and often integrated into transdisciplinary units of inquiry. The four main strands are:
Visual Art, Music, Dance, Drama
MYP, DP Visual Art and Performing Arts are treated as a holistic and interdisciplinary subject that balances practical, creative, and academic skills. MYP “Arts” whether art, drama, media studies, or music is a stand-alone IB subject that is graded as a full subject.

PE is essential for PYP and MYP students to foster lifelong health and boost mental wellbeing
Wellspring and the IB believe that physical and health education empowers students to understand and appreciate the value of being physically active and to develop the motivation for making healthy life choices. Besides embedding physical, health education (PHE) and Personal, social, and physical education (PSPE) into units of inquiry and stand-alone sessions at the PYP, MYP level, the school offers various afterschool activities and varsity teams for boys and girls in MYP and DP.

Drama
Drama fosters crucial skills of empathy, confidence, memorization, and collaboration
PYP Drama enables students to demonstrate and display newly gained knowledge in the units of inquiry by using dance, drama, poetry and song.
Wellspring believes MYP drama gives students the opportunity to shine as they memorize lines, sing and perform on a large stage and in front of an audience for two performances. Each year the drama teacher selects a full stage musical play where actors and actresses appear on stage or work “behind the curtain” with costuming, stage designs, lighting, stage management and directing. The annual musical production attracts over 600 audience members for each performance.
DP Theater is a 2-year International Baccalaureate (IB) course focused on creating, designing, directing, and performing. It emphasizes ensemble work, original, devised productions, and study of world theatre traditions. Assessed through a solo performance (HL), director’s notebook, research, and presentations, it requires a balance of practical skills and analytical, reflective writing.
