KDS DAR School has been officially named one of Alabama's Semiquincentennial Schools as part of the America250 Alabama Initiative. Joining this historic, statewide celebration as we approach America's 250th birthday helps ensure KDS students understand the significance of this once-in-a-generation milestone. By teaching our students lessons on American history, the principles of democracy, and the responsibilities of citizenship throughout all ages and subject matter, Alabama students will gain a deeper understanding of their role in preserving and continuing the founding values that have shaped our state and nation. While textbooks provide the theory, nothing compares to the tactile experience of a lab. Students spent the day identifying internal organs and observing the complex biological systems of amphibians firsthand. The activity is a rite of passage for middle schoolers, designed to bridge the gap between diagrams and reality. At KDS DAR High School , Dr. Thomas’ English students recently ditched their traditional desks to step into the shoes of the Capulets and Montagues for a high-stakes round of "Character Speed Dating." The activity transformed the classroom into a bustling social hub where students, embodying specific characters from Romeo and Juliet , circulated the room to meet their peers.
