St. Thomas More Hospital is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at the entrance of the Royal Gorge in scenic Cañon City, Colorado. Our non-profit, faith-based hospital is the cornerstone of healthcare services for Fremont County and surrounding communities with 24-hour emergency and acute care services. Through healthcare services and community outreach, we are proud to have extended the healing ministry of Christ to the sick and injured in Fremont County for more than 80 years, a legacy we continue today.

Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Cañon City, St. Thomas More Hospital is the area's cornerstone for healthcare services. Its rich history of providing comfort and healing began in 1938 when a half-dozen Benedictine nuns opened its doors. Today, the hospital plays a pivotal role in this rural community by providing 24-hour emergency and acute care to Fremont County residents, neighboring communities, and the many visitors who flock to the area.

St. Thomas More Hospital Leadership
Mike Cafasso serves as President at St. Thomas More Hospital. He is dedicated to ensuring employees have the support they need to provide compassionate, high-quality care to the community of Canon City. He also serves as CEO of St. Mary-Corwin Hospital. Prior to joining healthcare leadership, Mike served as Colorado President for the American Bank of Commerce.
He also led Pueblo Bank and Trust as President and CEO with their expansion into several Colorado markets. Mike has an extensive background in customer service programming and developing innovative practices. He has completed programs at Disney Institute, Ritz Carlton, Nordstrom’s, Lands’ End, and the Center for Creative Leadership. He is a current board member for the
Association for Managers of Innovation
.
As an active supporter of Colorado communities, Mike has served on Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation Board, co-chaired Access Denver, Girl Scouts of Colorado and Goodwill of Southern and Western Colorado Boards.
A Massachusetts native, Mike relocated to Colorado to attend Colorado State University-Pueblo (formerly University of Southern Colorado) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended and completed Graduate School of Banking at Colorado
Glen Griesheim serves as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for St. Thomas More Hospital. Glen began his professional career at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL, where he worked as a charge nurse in the emergency department. He then moved on to manage critical care and the ER at Doctor's Hospital, also located in Springfield. Glen transitioned to St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL, holding the roles of Director of Critical Care, Director of Diagnostic Services, and Chief Administrative Officer.
After more than a decade at St. Mary's, Glen felt called to an administrative role and took on the position of Vice president of Operations at Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson. Glen then seized the opportunity to serve as Chief Executive Officer at Select Specialty Hospital in Des Moines. Glen's most recent position before joining St. Mary-Corwin Hospital was Regional Operations Director at DaVita Kidney Care.
Glen earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University before moving on to the University of Illinois where he completed his Master of Art in Health Service Administration.

Volunteer
Volunteers are the heart of any organization and St. Thomas More Hospital is no exception. Our volunteer program places volunteers in a variety of positions throughout the hospital. Just some of the areas they serve in are information resource desk, admissions, patient dismissals, radiology and medical records.
Volunteers also staff and operate the St. Thomas More Hospital Gift Shop, where all proceeds are donated to the St. Thomas More Health Foundation to support programs and services.

Junior VolunTEEN Program
Youths 14 years of age and older are invited to participate in our VolunTEEN Program. No longer called "candy stripers" nor reserved just for girls, our VolunTEENers are learning life skills through volunteer work. While experiencing meaningful interactions with those in need, they may even discover new career possibilities.

All visitors of patients at our hospital enjoy equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences and subject to the facility’s clinical restrictions. Visitor policy may be subject to change. Please adhere to any adjustments to permitted visitors, as posted in our facility.
Visitors under the age of 14 must be escorted by a responsible adult.
At 5 pm, seven days a week, the main lobby entrance will be locked. After 5 pm, enter the hospital through the emergency department walk-in entrance.
There may be times when visitors are asked to leave to better meet the needs of our patients.
Patients and visitors may park in the parking lot in front of the main entrance and adjacent lots around the hospital. Free parking is available 24 hours a day.

Letters and packages are delivered to patients Monday - Friday. If you have letters to be mailed, you may give them to your nurse. Flowers addressed to you will be delivered to your room unless you are in the intensive care unit. Only Mylar® balloons are permitted in the hospital. Latex balloons can cause allergic responses and interfere with hospital safety systems.

St. Thomas More Health Foundation donors come from all walks of life, contributing gifts of every size for a wide variety of projects. Together, we share a commitment to the common good and a willingness to put our resources to work advancing the healing ministry of Christ upon which the St. Thomas More Hospital mission is built.
The foundation supports the hospital's mission to enhance the health of the individuals and communities it serves through promotion and distribution of philanthropic gifts. The monies are managed and distributed by the Foundation Board. St. Thomas More Health Foundation provides funding for equipment needs, programs, services and charity care for patients. Helping neighbors and friends through donations to the foundation touches lives and leaves a legacy for the future.

Blood Donation
It is no wonder that one of the biggest health care crisis facing the nation today is the availability of blood and blood products when they are needed.
St. Thomas More partners with the Vitalant to ensure there is a safe and adequate blood supply for Canon City and Fremont County. The need for blood donations is on-going. Blood cannot be manufactured, duplicated or produced outside of the human body. It can only be obtained through the volunteer efforts of healthy donors willing to give of themselves for the benefit of others.

The mission of St. Thomas More Hospital calls for us to "nurture the health of the people in our communities." We do this through active participation in community events, local organizations and school programs. You will see St. Thomas More Hospital staff taking blood pressures and offering health education at events such as Florence Pioneer Day, Penrose Apple Day, the Pueblo Community College-Fremont County Senior Mini-Fair, and the annual 9Health Fair in Canon City. We are also available to speak on a variety of health topics for school or social programs.

Supporting the communities in this way is a reflection of our mission to improve the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.
Before submitting a request, please consider the following:
Sponsorships and events should align with our mission and values; community health improvement or prevention; and one of the hospital’s Community Health Needs Assessment priorities.
Please make your request at least 60 days prior to your event or sponsorship deadline.
Completion of this form does not guarantee a donation or sponsorship.
We are only able to support non-profit organizations.
