Since 1881, Sacred Heart has lived the mission of our foundress St. Madeleine Sophie Barat – inspiring generations of students to lead meaningful lives. Today, we are a vibrant community that empowers each young woman to share her passion and purpose through our commitment to five core goals.
Faith
We empower each young woman to find
and share her passion and purpose.
Learn More
Intellect
We instill critical skills- analytical thinking and creativity, leadership and ethical judgement- needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Learn More
Action
We teach students to look beyond themselves for ways they can impact and influence the larger community.

Community
We are a remarkable community where everyone knows and appreciates who you are. Each student is encouraged to take risks and discover what she is capable of achieving.

Alicia
At Sacred Heart I learned how to think, not what to think. I was encouraged from a young age to articulate my own thoughts and stand up for what I believe in.

Claire
Being part of the Sacred Heart network gave me the amazing opportunity to participate in the International Summit in France. I discussed global issues with Sacred Heart girls from all over the world, giving me a new perspective on issues such as climate change.

Learning to love service is a special part of a Sacred Heart education. In 6th grade, I volunteered for Project Cicero and Meals on Wheels. Delivering books to kids from under-resourced communities and bringing food to seniors who are homebound helped me realize that a small action can make a major difference.

One of my favorite Sacred Heart traditions is “K Buddies” where 4th graders are paired with Kindergarteners. Last year, I had a K Buddy named Jacqueline. We read together, played fun games and I made sure she felt welcome as part of the Sacred Heart family...just like my K Buddy did for me.

Caitlin
After graduating, I took a gap year to teach at Kangole Girls Senior Secondary School in Uganda. I taught math, PE and started the first competitive soccer team. Most importantly, I learned to never underestimate the power of what we can bring from 91st Street to the rest of the world.
