Learn More About Our Collections & Exhibits
Main Gallery
The Spellman Museum of Forney History collects and exhibits items related to the history of Forney and Kaufman County. Our main exhibits are semi-permanent and tell our story in roughly chronological order from Native Americans, early settlers, agriculture, transportation, schools and more using photos, murals, artifacts, and interactive exhibits.
Rotating Exhibits
We host additional exhibits on a temporary or rotating basis in our multi-purpose room. This offers a chance to display additional artifacts outside of the main gallery, usually centered on a theme. We also host borrowed or curated exhibits on a range of interesting topics. See below for our current featured exhibit.
Coreen Spellman Artwork
Coreen Spellman was a noted regional artist and native of Forney. Her brother Mick is our benefactor, and he donated an extensive collection of Coreen’s artwork to the museum. Visitors can always find a few pieces on display, and we continue to work to make more of her artwork available to the viewing public.
Digital Photo Collection
The museum has an extensive photo collection from the Forney Historic Preservation League and previous Forney Heritage Society. Many are included in museum displays and the book which is the foundation for much of our exhibits: Forney Country: A History of Northwestern Kaufman County, Texas.
Featured Exhibit
Celebrating America 250
We have on display some Revolutionary War era firearms and other artifacts starting Saturday, March 28 and lasting through Mid-July. We will also have special presentations from FHPL Board member Bill Crawley.
On exhibit starting March 28.
