Quick facts about Marjon
Thinking of applying to Marjon? Here are some key facts:
1. We are a small, campus based University, based in
Plymouth
in the South West of England.
2. We are in a spectacular location, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and with sweeping views of the sea and the hills of Devon and Cornwall.
3. We were the first teacher training institution, established in London in 1838.
4. We are ranked the top University in England for social inclusion (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023). The principles of widening participation and encouraging opportunities for all run deep in every Marjon member of staff.
5. Students tell us our secret is our friendliness. We bring out the best in them through strong relationships and amazing support; understanding how they learn and what they want from their lives both intellectually and as a whole person.

Why work for Marjon?
Generous holiday entitlement
Academic staff enjoy 35 days’ holiday, plus two closure days and eight bank holidays. This equates to 45 (full-time equivalent) days.
Depending on your grade and job role, professional services staff receive 30 to 39 full-time equivalent days.
Career development
For you...
Each member of staff will have a Personal Development Review each year. In this you’ll agree your goals and what support you need to achieve them. You’ll be able to cover your ambitions and personal passions as well as discussing needs of the organisation. We firmly believe that playing to people’s strengths brings out the best in our people.
In order to maintain our high standards of teaching, new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification are encouraged to undertake all or part of the PgCert in Learning and Teaching. More experienced staff can apply to Advance HE for fellowship. All members of staff will discuss their learning and development needs as part of their Personal Development Review.
For students...
We reflect this approach to personal improvement with students. Every student has a Personal Development Tutor to support them through their time with us. Their Personal Development Tutor works with them to develop their confidence, uncover hidden strengths, supports them through academic advice and signposts them to specific professional support services within the University. We also offer
student colleague roles
which broaden skills through real work experience. The aim is that our graduates leave us highly competent and confident employees, comfortable in their values and their strengths, and ready to enter the world of work and find roles which enable them to achieve the things which make them personally happy.
Pension Benefits
As a valued member of the Marjon community, you will have access to one of two attractive pension schemes depending on your role
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (for all academic staff)
Local Government Pension Scheme (for all professional services staff).
Contributing to your pension allows you to build up a pot of money to provide for yourself and your family in retirement. As well as your contributions, the University contributes too. Benefits also include death in service provision and other pension scheme-specific family benefits.
