- Fostering Selfless Service and Community Responsibility
About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports, Government of India, launched in 1969 to commemorate the birth centenary of
Mahatma Gandhi. It aims to develop a sense of social and civic responsibility among students
through participation in community service activities and programs.
NSS operates in educational institutions across the country, promoting leadership and
teamwork among the youth. Its motto,
"Not Me But You"
, embodies selfless
service, valuing others' perspectives, and fostering mutual respect among individuals.
Objectives
Personality Development:
Enhance empathy, leadership, and social
responsibility.
Community Service:
Engage in social work that meets community needs.
National Integration:
Promote harmony and unity through service
projects.
Skill Development:
Equip students with life skills for personal and
professional growth.
Activities and Programs
NSS organizes a variety of programs and activities, such as:
Community Outreach:
Literacy drives, health camps, and environmental
conservation.
Special Camps:
Week-long camps focusing on health, hygiene, and rural
development.
Awareness Campaigns:
Topics include drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and gender
equality.
Disaster Management:
Training and relief efforts during calamities.
Cultural Exchange:
Promotes cultural heritage and fosters unity among
students.
