Residency Participants
Nonimmigrant students participating in on-campus residencies for online degree programs are responsible for ensuring they have proper immigration status for their studies at Saybrook. An I-20 is required for residency students to apply for an F-1 student visa and to obtain F-1 status when entering the United States.
If you are a nonimmigrant student with a B-1 or B-2 visitor immigration status, you will not be permitted to enroll in degree-seeking programs or participate in on-campus, residency-related workshops, classes, or activities that lead toward the attainment of a degree
Applying for Your Visa
You will need the following to apply for your visa:

One 2-by-2-inch color photograph
Scheduled visa appointment
Any other documents you might need as determined by your local consulate
F-1 Visa Next Steps
Approximately 3 months prior to your residency start date at Saybrook, you can start the process to apply for a visa. You will need to submit the following to your DSO:
Submit financial paperwork
Submit dependent documents, if applicable
Check your I-20 for accuracy
Pay
SEVIS
Fee online
The DSO will create a record in the SEVIS system which will allow them to create your Certificate of Eligibility or I-20 which you will need, to apply for your F-1 visa.
The Visa Interview
Find the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate and schedule your visa interview. Wait times will vary by country and can take months—set up your appointment as early as possible. Please refer to your local consulate’s website for more detailed information regarding the visa scheduling process and the exact documents required. Generally, the following documents are required:
Proof of acceptance to a SEVP certified school (I-20 and program acceptance letter)
Proof of financial ability to pay for school and living expenses for the Residential Conference program
The I-901 SEVIS Fee receipt
Proof of eligibility to enroll in the academic program (e.g., test scores, English proficiency, previous diplomas, certificates)
Arriving in the U.S.
Documents to Carry

Get Your I-94
All nonimmigrants are assigned an I-94 number upon entry to the U.S. Students can access their I-94 Arrival/Departure Record from the
U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.
The printout will serve as an official I-94 record for federal and state government-based benefit applications, such as driver’s license and Social Security number.
To get your I-94, go to

. You will need this when you check in with the school.
Important Things to Remember
F-1 visa tudents cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days prior to their program or Residential Conference start date listed on their I-20
When flying, keep documents within your carry-on, not your checked baggage
