Grayson Borbidge Joins Elite Ranks of Warhol and King as National Scholastic Award Winner
In a year that saw over 335,000 individual entries from across the United States, FBCA student Grayson Borbidge has emerged as one of the country’s most promising young creatives. Borbidge has been named a 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards National Winner, earning the prestigious Silver Medal for the original work titled "Ægishjaìlmr’s Respite."
A Rare Achievement
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the nonprofit behind the nearly century-old awards program, noted that this year’s competition was particularly fierce. With more than 110,000 students participating nationwide, only about 1% of all entries achieve National Medal status.
Borbidge’s success is a standout moment for the state of Texas, where only 120 students received Silver National Medals this year.
Judgment by the Greats
Winning pieces are selected by a panel of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. According to the Alliance, “Ægishjaìlmr’s Respite” was chosen based on three core criteria:
Originality
Technical Skill
The emergence of a personal voice or vision
Joining a Century-Old Legacy
By receiving this medal, Borbidge joins a historic roster of "notable alumni" who won Scholastic Awards during their teenage years—names that have since defined American culture, including:
Andy Warhol (Pop Art icon)
Stephen King (Legendary novelist)
Amanda Gorman (Presidential Inaugural Poet)
Tschabalala Self (Contemporary painter)
Where to See the Work
The 2026 National Winners will have their work preserved in several formats to inspire the next generation of artists. Grayson Borbidge’s winning piece will be:
Published in the Alliance’s official online galleries at
artandwriting.org
.
Featured in the Yearbook 2026, the annual companion to the program's art and writing anthologies.
"The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers is honored to celebrate your accomplishment," the organization stated in its official announcement. For Borbidge, the Silver Medal is more than just an award—it is a formal entry into the national canon of young American talent.
