Your future skills course will consist of either six or eight modules with each module focusing on a different topic that works towards your final project. Modules consist of individual activities that can be completed in around one and a half to two hours of study. Your first module is designed to get you set up for online learning and familiarise yourself with the tools. Rich media such as video, webinars, podcasts, and interactive learning activities ensure you remain highly engaged. Knowledge of new skills is demonstrated through weekly milestone submissions that will help you work towards your final project. Our course experience is designed with social learning at its heart, so that you can build networks within your cohort and collaborate on learning via slack messaging.
Industry mentors are instrumental in guiding you on your learning path, valuable insights will be shared in weekly webinars in collaborate ultra. Your mentor is an industry expert in the field relevant to your course. You can book one 15-minute session with them during your course. A one-on-one is a great way to get questions answered relating to your personal project, it can also be used to talk about industry connection, career aspirations, or your final project, or specific questions that you might have on the course content.
One-on-one sessions will be held over a Slack call. To get the most out of this be sure to prepare what you want to talk about beforehand so you can maximize your time with the mentor. Each week your mentors will host a webinar on our video service collaborate ultra this is found under courses in the main menu of canvas.
Upcoming sessions are listed here so you can click and join wherever you are. You'll be notified with times and dates of any future webinars in advance.
Each webinar lasts between 30 and 60 minutes providing a great opportunity to ask your mentors questions on weekly topics and gain insights from their expertise.
To reduce background noise keep your mic muted until you're ready to speak. We recommend turning your camera on as seeing your peers brings a more human touch to online learning.
You can post questions within your course's slack channel to be answered in the webinar even if you can't attend. All recordings are stored within collaborate ultra's menu in case you cannot make a live session or wish to refer back at a later date.

Slack is the main tool for communicating and collaborating with your peers and mentors during your course. You'll find a link to join your slack workspace in the first welcome module. If you're not familiar with slack, don't worry we've got plenty of resources to help you within the orientation module found on your canvas dashboard.
Once you're inside your slack workspace, you'll have access to communication channels specific to each course module. In these channels you can discuss topics and ask questions about the course content, collaborate with other students, share resources you found useful, or post questions for upcoming webinars. You'll also have access to public channels such as the announcement channel containing updates from RMIT Online staff and the help and support channel where you can ask support questions to our chatbot, Obi, whereas direct messages let you have private conversations with your peers and mentors.
Slack allows you to search for particular conversations by going to the search bar at the top of your screen and typing in a person's name a keyword or the title of a file that's been shared. If you need additional slack support, simply send us an email to studentexperience@rmitonline.edu.au

With prestigious endorsements like RMIT University, these badges add credibility and visibility, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. As employers and industry leaders increasingly recognize their value, digital badges streamline hiring by eliminating lengthy verification processes.
Sometimes when we've completed a course or a credential, we're really confident that we can do something. But how can I convince the employer?
This is where the digital badge can come in and stand behind you, so that the employer has confidence about your claim.
I'm time poor, so if I'm going to invest in education for myself, it needs to have a really great outcome. So to know that it holds such a prestigious stamp, such as having RMIT University on it and it's instantly verified digitally, that's huge.
So, uploading the digital credential has had quite an impact, especially from a social media point of view when I got to upload it on LinkedIn. There was a huge amount of people that were liking and commenting and I had quite a few people actually reach out asking about the course. A huge point of value any employer looking at your profile on LinkedIn, they can essentially scroll through your profile, see these credentials and know instantaneously that they're legit. That you have completed the course.
So increasingly, I think employers and industry partners, even government organisations are starting to recognise the value of what these digital credentials are and the badges that are actually representing that credential. So for someone like myself who actually works in industry hiring people constantly, to be able to see that and not have to go through a long winded verification process is highly attractive.

One of the great surprises I found with RMIT Online was how much I felt part of a community.
Through slack and zoom meetings we have together with support from our Mentors I never felt alone while I was studying and this helped me achieve great results throughout the course.
After completing the course with RMIT Online the networks and skills that I developed throughout the course gave me the confidence to reach out and get in touch with other people in our broader network about potential job opportunities.
So as a result of that and posting about my achievements on LinkedIn that's how I got in touch with my current employer and got my first job in iOS development.

I've always been fascinated and passionate about IT and digital hence why i've made that my career over the past 17 years. I really wanted to make a change in career from being digital project management and move into the ai strategy space. Increasingly AI automation robotics are all the emerging new technologies and i'd like to skill myself up to provide that offering.
After the course, one of the world's biggest tech company solicited me for a unique new role as an ai cognitive linguist. i really want to encourage more women to get involved to be in the forefront and pioneer this industry, so to create an unbiased AI industry going forward.
The technology and the thinking is changing on a daily basis almost, so the only way to keep up is continual learning all the time.

I decided to study online with RMIT because I had a massive life-changing event. I became a mother, and so I needed my studies to be able to fit around my life and my child instead of the other way around.
Through my studies I want to become an excellent marketer and I filled with RMIT, my career has already progressed and as a new mother I was really worried about the fact that my career would stall. But through the support of, um, my work as well as studying online through RMIT I've been able to to get promoted, and I apply my thinking and things I've learnt every day.
I feel like there might be a perception out there that online learning is easier, and it's the easy way out and I feel that it's actually quite the opposite. it's an intensive seven week course so I think if someone is considering doing an online degree – to just bite the bullet and try it out and do it but equally just make sure that you're organized beforehand.

John's story: Upskilling to stay relevant in a changing workforce
My name is John Gibson I work for a company up in Sydney as a train guard and I'm part of a company that employs about 10,000 people.
RMIT collaborated with Apple to develop the course so I knew that through Apple and also through RMIT being two very trusted names in the industry, it's a program that I'll be able to trust.
I heard about the course about 10am and then by about midday I applied for the course. That's how focused I was on actually getting it done.
I wanted to learn app development because I think it's an essential skill that you need to know nowadays.
Being part of a project that delivered iPhones and iPads to all of our train crew, I'm able to use my skills to be able to build custom applications that will actually support the staff.
The skills you learn from this are lifelong. When you talk about computer skills, you're no longer talking about how to use in a word processor or use a spreadsheet.
We're now at a point in the world where learning how to code an application is almost fundamental, so for you to be able to to learn these skills, go ahead and do it.
If you're not confident, that's not a problem. There are people who are there to support you, whether it's another student, whether it's one of your mentors, whether it's a course manager, whatever hurdle that you think you can't overcome, definitely you can overcome them.
That's one of the great things about this course that I've learned at RMIT Online is that they've got the skills and the ability to be able to talk guide you through being able to complete and overcome the hurdle that you have.

The industry that I work in has changed a lot in the last 20 years, you know we've moved from primarily delivering face-to-face training to e-learning, multimedia, simulations and animation and I guess, AR and VR it's just the next step. People are going to expect these kind of experiences. They expect to be able to, um, to start in a firm and use their phone to find the desk of somebody that they need to introduce themselves to. Now this is this is what's coming. I wanted to learn this kind of stuff because i need to learn it quickly. i haven't got time to do like a three-year course and even by that point all the technology would have changed anyway. It's just the next step it's another tool in my kit.

I was interested in learning about blockchain because I actually studied my undergraduate in maths and since then I've actually gone on to study marketing. And although these fields are pretty different, I feel like I've reached success in my career because I've been able to bring in two really separate fields and bring them together to create some really creative solutions to problems.
Blockchain allows you to do that on another level and with new technology. I chose to study at RMIT because I really like the way they were going to be blending the new ideas of Stone and Chalk a fin-tech start up and also the ideas of Accenture which is a more traditional but still innovative business management place.
I found it really easy to study online even though I live so far away from where the course was being managed, because I had lots of support when I needed it and there was a really good online learning community with my peers sharing information as well.
Yeah, life since the course is really good. Um, I started my YouTube channel called Blockchain Beams, which has been a really good way for me to synthesise my own knowledge and my own thoughts about the space, because I think the best way to cement your learning about a topic is to teach someone else. Especially, also I really wanted a way to make it easier for women to enter the space, because I feel like lots of the resources and videos out there were really skewed towards the male demographic and I wanted to bring something fresh to the space.
If you’re even the slightest bit interested in learning about blockchain, I really think you should try and do a course or  just learn yourself to see how much you can know. It’s so hard at the start because there is such a steep climb to get into the space, but once you’re there and once you have that knowledge it’s really easy to see all the solutions and the possibilities around you.

So Trudi I would like to ask like a few questions. Just you know, and you can share your experience with everyone, um, but what were the challenges if you want to share some of the challenges with all our students that you have, you know, had since you started the course and then how you overcame them some tips and advice.
I have quite a long commute, it's about three and a half hours a day um total so i utilise my commute time to read. You can access canvas through your mobile phone and tablets and things like that so i tend to try and do the readings while i'm traveling. Uh lunch breaks, essentially any time that i don't have someone demanding something of me, um i'm trying to utilise that time to study.
Sometimes it means prioritising study over family events and social events. Look have a sense of humor, make the right priorities, be creative with how you find time to get it done, but realise you are going to make mistakes and it's not going to be the end of the world. It's really from a challenge point of view because there will be lots of them um sometimes you'll feel really smart because it's something that you've done before you know but just roll with it.

The great thing about studying online at RMIT is utilising the orientation week. Getting that forward planning and being able to put that into my working schedule that's allowed me to be prepared and flexible when I need to be.
But when it does get quite busy the benefit of studying online means that I can study anywhere anytime around my working life. I try and be quite organised so as soon as I get the course outline, I put that straight into my working calendar so that I'm aware of when those assignments are due.
But also utilise any downtime I have so if I am on a train or I've got any time at work and a break, or at home, I utilise that time to get on an iPad and catch up with study. And the great thing about studying online is that I'm able to catch up on webinars or things I may have missed and also do course readings.

Testing the waters with a graduate certificate
Study tips & resources: Past students share their experiences and tried and tested study tips
When I tried to enrol in the program because I don't have an undergraduate degree I was initially enrolled in the graduate certificate of Supply Chain and Logistics Management at RMIT.
I did have a little bit of trepidation doing this as I hadn't studied at University before so it wasn't entirely sure how I would go academically as well as being able to meet the work commitments and assignment requirements.
However very early on I realised that RMIT provided great support, some very good resources tutors who are knowledgeable and approachable so I decided that I wanted to commit to the master's program as soon as I finished the graduate certificate.

You will receive an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification from RMIT University, which is the same qualification as on-campus students. If you are undertaking a postgraduate program with a Future Skills elective, you will also receive a digital credential, where relevant.
Digital credentials (displayed as digital badges) are an online representation of a capability or skill you have earned and which can be validated, recognised, and shared. You will receive a digital credential where relevant, for any Future Skills electives you undertake. Note, you will automatically opted into receiving a digital credential, but should you not be interested, you must opt-out. You should automatically see any digital badges received for Future Skills electives in Canvas.

demonstrated mastery of the subject matter within the subject area.
If you successfully demonstrate mastery of the subject, you will be issued a digital credential through Credly and will receive an invitation from Credly to claim your badge.

The value of your digital credential
