The Clark–Romney Legacy
For more than 60 years, the Clark-Romney family has helped shape the spirit and strength of Saddle River Day School. That legacy began in 1959, when Margaret Clark joined the faculty and played a pivotal role in building the school’s first science department—literally constructing desks, outfitting labs and inspiring generations of students. Margaret later returned to serve as a trustee and, during a moment of transition, as interim head of school. Today, her impact lives on through the spaces that bear her name across campus, including a science lab in Alford Hall and a garden in front of the school.
Margaret’s daughter, Dr. Mary Clark-Romney ’67, continued this tradition, serving as a valued trustee (vice president and governance chair) from 1995–2011, a devoted parent to three SRDS graduates (Stephen ’97, Aaron ’00 and Elizabeth ’04) and now trustee emerita. This year, the legacy comes full circle as Mary’s granddaughter, Maggie ’38, begins her own SRDS journey. We proudly honor four generations of the Clark-Romney family and their more than 60 years of unwavering philanthropy, leadership and belief in the mission of Saddle River Day School.
