How to Apply - A Streamlined Process
Start your application through our online portals according to your student type. If you’re applying as a freshman, you can also use the
Common App
.
Submit admission materials such as transcripts, English language scores (if applicable), GED (if applicable), and standardized test scores (optional).
Receive an admission decision in two to three weeks.
Accept your admission offer and secure your spot at Western Illinois University!

We welcome students from all walks of life. All students are encouraged to apply using our single, streamlined application process.
Freshmen
Students who are currently in high school or have graduated but have not yet completed college-level coursework after high school graduation.
Transfer students
Students who have earned college credit at another institution following their high school graduation.
Graduate students
Students who have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and are seeking a master's or doctorate degree.
Students seeking a second bachelor's degree
Students who have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and are seeking a second bachelor's degree.
International students
Students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents.
Returning WIU students
Students who previously attended WIU in a traditional major/program.
High School Dual Enrollment Students
High school students taking WIU courses alongside high school classes.
Bachelor of General Studies Students
Students seeking a flexible, non-majored Bachelor of Arts degree. To be eligible, you must have graduated high school at least five years ago or have earned a minimum of 24 hours of college transfer credit.
Visiting/Guest Undergraduate Students
Current students at another institution taking one semester of WIU classes.
Non-Degree Students
Students who want to enroll in classes without pursuing a degree from WIU.
Admission Deadlines
We accept undergraduate applications on a rolling basis throughout the year, meaning you can apply to Western Illinois University when you’re ready. Below are the recommended deadlines based on which semester you plan to start classes.
