Active and Creative Kids vouchers
The NSW Government is helping with the cost of sport, recreation, creative and cultural activities with $50 Active and Creative Kids vouchers.
Voucher 1 2026 is now available. If you have not used voucher 2 2025, you can use this together with the new voucher before 14 July 2026 for a combined total of $100.

Eastern and Western Division schools
In NSW, schools in the Western Division start classes a week later than those in the Eastern Division. This tradition began because the Western region is hotter at that time of year. Delaying the start helps teachers and students avoid the worst of the summer heat.

School development days
School development days
support a world-class education system by allowing staff to focus on professional development and planning, with no classes held for students. Dates are set by the Department, but may vary by school, so it's best to check locally.
School speed zones
School speed zones
operate on all notified school days, including school development days. The 40km/h speed limit in school zones is designed to keep children safe by reducing crash risks and severity. Signs, road markings, and flashing lights help make school zones more visible to drivers. When school zones are active, always follow the speed limit, as increased fines and demerit points apply for offences like speeding and illegal mobile phone use, especially during
double demerit periods
