Accessibility Commitment
The City of New York is committed to ensuring that all of our digital content can be accessed by New Yorkers with disabilities. To reach that goal,
Local Law 26 of 2016
was passed which requires City agencies to make a reasonable effort to make their websites accessible.
If you find an issue, please report it by filling out the
Website Accessibility Feedback Form
.
Since then, three digital accessibility reports were written and are available on our
Reports and Publications page
. As of July of 2021, the City of New York has adopted the
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
Level AA standard.
The Digital Accessibility Coordinator based at the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities works towards these goals by auditing websites and providing guidance to NYC agencies on how to make their digital content accessible. Additionally, the Digital Accessibility Coordinator conducts trainings and organizes educational events for City employees and the public to learn more about creating accessible digital content. The Digital Accessibility Coordinator also leads the effort to write the Digital Accessibility Reports mandated by Local Law 26.
