Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)
As a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act, Wingate University students can apply for financial assistance through the HEERF Program. Emergency grant funds will be available to eligible Wingate students who are experiencing unexpected expenses or financial hardships related to changes in campus operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible Students:
Students must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet FAFSA eligibility requirements.
Undergraduate
Graduate/Professional
Ineligible Students
Students must have been enrolled at Wingate University as of March 13, 2020 and be actively enrolled. Students who begin their course of study in Summer/Fall 2020 are not eligible.
Distance Education (Online Program)
Non-Degree
Certificate/Licensure
Examples of expenses you may have incurred include (but are not limited to):
Cost of food due to the loss of your university meal plan
Cost of internet service due to courses moving online
Cost of gas, flights, etc., due to moving off campus and relocating home
Purchase of a laptop or other supplies to complete coursework remotely
Examples of expenses that cannot be covered with HEERF Funds:
Loss of wages for the student and/or parent/spouse
Tuition/Student Account Balance
To be
eligible
to receive federal student aid, you must:
Be a citizen or
eligible noncitizen
of the United States
Have a valid Social Security Number
Have a high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or have completed homeschooling
Be enrolled as a regular student in an eligible degree program
Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Not be in default on a federal student loan or owe money on a federal student grant
Be registered with the Selective Service System, if you’re male
Additional eligibility requirements can apply in certain situations
Complete the

electronically. You must use your Wingate University email address to complete the application.
You will need to complete a 2019-2020 FAFSA and have your results sent to Wingate, school code 002985. After submitting the FAFSA, you can complete the

Wingate will review applications on a weekly basis from the date the application is initially launched.
It is our goal to review applications on a weekly basis as they are received. Processing time may vary based on the volume of applications.
You will receive a message via your Wingate University email address once your application has been processed. You will be informed of the application status (approved/denied) as well as the grant amount, if approved.
You will be asked to provide your full legal name and current mailing address on your HEERF application. Funding will be issued via a Wisely Pay Debit Card from ADP.
