Who We Are
The Pomerene Foundation was created in 1995 with the goal of supporting projects and services that assist the Hospital in achieving its mission, “Caring for our community’s health.” The Foundation’s mission, “Raising awareness and resources to support Pomerene Hospital’s mission” is pursued by very dedicated volunteers and employees.The Pomerene Foundation acts as the fundraising and philanthropic arm of Pomerene Hospital.
The Pomerene Foundation gives back to the hospital and community through various avenues including funding education and training (healthcare scholarships, nursing scholarships, nurse education and training programs), community and patient needs (medication fund), as well as funding for Hospital services and equipment needs.

Our Auxiliary
The Pomerene Auxiliary was organized in September 1972 to assist the hospital by providing volunteers who help improve customer service, patient experience and facilitate fundraising activities. The Auxiliary reports directly to the Pomerene Board of Directors.
The Auxiliary organization is governed by a panel of elected volunteers serving on the Pomerene Auxiliary Board who are responsible for its member volunteers, activity planning and decision making towards project and service support.
Some of the most recent projects the Auxiliary Board has completed are:

Remodeling of the OR waiting Room
Updating the Lobby area
Our Volunteers
Pomerene Hospital is currently supported by 55 active volunteers. Pomerene volunteers provide customer service to visitors, assistance in serving the needs of the hospital’s patients and families as well as the professional healthcare staff. Volunteers assist in a variety of capacities, including working in the Coffee / Gift Shop, assisting visitors, support for patient care and other support areas such as dietary and materials management, making deliveries to various departments, and assisting with clerical duties. Our volunteer team contributes over 5,000 hours a year to Pomerene Hospital.

A $4,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student each year.

The Miley Fund
The Miley Fund was created by a generous donation from the family of Jessie Miley, a long-time nurse at Pomerene Hospital. Funds from this donation are used to award scholarships to individuals pursuing a career in nursing and plan to begin their nursing career at Pomerene Hospital; as well as to support training and development opportunities for current Pomerene Hospital Nurses.

Equipment
The Pomerene Foundation contributes funds to Pomerene Hospital to help purchase new equipment, facility improvements, or new service needs that were not included in the hospital’s annual capital budget.
