Welcome to Grampound Parish Council
Welcome to the Ancient Township of Grampound with Creed
Grampound with Creed is a civil parish in mid-Cornwall, England, centred on the historic village of Grampound, which sits on the River Fal along the A390 route between Truro and St Austell. Grampound grew as a medieval borough in the 14th century and became an important local trading point thanks to its bridge and market. It was later known for being one of the “rotten boroughs” and lost its right to elect Members of Parliament in the early 19th century after a major corruption scandal. The neighbouring settlement of Creed, whose name derives from the Celtic word
cryd
meaning “wooded,” is older still and is noted for its medieval parish church dedicated to St Crida. Today the combined parish reflects this layered history, blending its medieval roots with the character of a small Cornish community.
