HKMU held a National Security Education Day flag-raising ceremony on 15 April to foster staff and students' sense of national identity and to jointly safeguard national security.
The HKMU JUPAS Consultation Day will take place on 16 May 2026 (Saturday) at our Ho Man Tin campuses. We have arranged a wide range of activities for the event, including programme and undergraduate JUPAS admissions talks, consultation booths, guided studio and lab tours, campus tours and libraries open house. We welcome secondary students, parents, and teachers to join us. For further details on registration and the event schedule, please visit our event website.
Dr Lam Ching-choi, Member of the Executive Council of the HKSAR Government and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health, delivered HKMU's first Talk of the Metropolis of the year. He commended HKMU's vision in advancing mental health education, praising its pioneering initiative to make the Mental Health First Aid course compulsory as an excellent example for other institutions.
This year's HKMU Foundation Dinner, themed “Forging Ahead for a Brighter Future”, brought together more than 500 distinguished guests from government, LegCo, business and industry, academia and philanthropy, along with alumni, faculty and students, in support of HKMU's sports and cultural development.
In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, six HKMU subjects were ranked for the first time, with three of them placing among the world's top 150. These encouraging results reflect the growing international recognition of HKMU's programme quality and academic achievements.
HKMU Shenzhen Research Institute was officially inaugurated at the Shenzhen Virtual University Park, marking a significant milestone in HKMU's research development. This will further strengthen the University's integration with industry and academia in the GBA and foster the commercialisation of research outcomes.
To celebrate the Year of the Horse, an HKMU student team was invited to collaborate with industry professionals to transform Xu Beihong's national treasure,
Six Galloping Horses
, into a naked-eye 3D animation. They applied their knowledge of digital art, animation, and AI technology to create the materials, including animations and interactive experiences, transforming what they learned in the classroom into practical outcomes.
HKMU collaborates with the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom to establish a dual degree pathway for HKMU undergraduates, marking a milestone in HKMU's efforts to expand its international partnerships and reinforcing HKMU's commitment to fostering talent with the practical skills and international exposure.
“Resplendent Attire and Graceful Demeanor: The Cantonese Opera Costume Exhibition” is now officially open! The HKMU Ho Sik Yee Library is currently showcasing a collection of rare and exquisite Cantonese opera costumes, including pieces worn by the legendary “Queen of Huadan”, Dr Fong Yim-fun; the late renowned artist Dr Lam Kar-sing; and the late “Artistic Huadan Queen”, Ms Chan Ho-kau. Members of the public are invited to view the craftsmanship and design of these classic costumes up close.
HKMU secured over HK$22 million in the latest round of the Education Bureau's “Enhancement and Start-up Grant Scheme for Self-financing Post-secondary Education” (ESGS) to establish a Flight Simulation Laboratory. This advanced facility will provide students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Aviation Services Management programme with practical, industry-focused training.
The HKMU Museum of Modern Chinese Literature and its inaugural exhibition, “Beyond Distance: Half a Lifelong Friendship of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong, and Mae Fong Soong”, have officially opened! Showcasing over 120 precious items from renowned Chinese writer Eileen Chang and her close friends, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong, the museum is now open to the public by appointment, free of charge.
HKMU made its debut in the QS World University Rankings 2026 earlier in June, ranking in the 781–790 range. This marked a first for Hong Kong's self-financing institutions and UAS. Furthermore, HKMU has advanced by over 100 places for the second consecutive year in the latest QS Asia University Rankings 2026, now ranked among Asia's top 400 universities, rising to 393rd position, a significant leap of over 140 places compared to the previous year.
In the latest round of the Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector of the RGC, HKMU secured over HK$33.42 million for 47 projects, amounting to over 37.1% of the total RGC allocation. HKMU ranked first among all local self-financing institutions in terms of both funding amount and the number of projects for the third consecutive year.
HKMU secured 1,891 subsidised places across 21 programmes for the 2026/27 academic year under the latest round of EDB's Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) for undergraduate programmes. This includes 1,177 places for 10 Applied Degree programmes. HKMU continued to secure the highest number of funded programmes and places among the eight participating self-financing institutions.
