Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Augmentative and Alternative Communication
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants and ideas. An AAC device may be appropriate and life changing for children and adults with various injuries or illnesses that experience difficulty with speech and communication. Using AAC can provide the necessary support and service for effective communication.
How We Treat
Our trained
speech and language pathologists
will evaluate and trial AAC with you to find the best way to help you communicate. Based on your abilities, you may use no-tech strategies (gestures, writing, etc.), low-tech strategies (communication boards, etc.), mid or high-tech strategies (speech generating devices, etc.) to meet your needs. We work with you, your family, your caregivers and vendors to assure successful set up and implementation of any AAC device. In addition we consult with various agencies and school professionals to recommend and train staff on the appropriate AAC in the home, community and day program setting.
Admissions
