ABOUT DDU-GKY
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is the skilling and placement initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. DDU-GKY has its origins in the Aajeevika Skills programme and the ‘Special Projects’ component of the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY). The scheme focuses on catering to the occupational aspirations of rural youth and enhancing their skills for wage employment.
Implementation of DDU-GKY involves State Governments, Technical Support Agencies like the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR), and Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs).
MoRD has notified the Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to be followed while implementing the programme. It is mandatory for all project functionaries under DDU-GKY to be trained, assessed and certified in the Standard Operating Procedures.
VISION
To be a Centre of Excellence and a global leader for policy design and implementation in skilling and placement linked skill programs for rural youth of the developing countries.
MISSION
To provide technical services such as monitoring, evaluation, training, content development, and research for the programs undertaken by Government at national level to enable rural poor youths including socially disadvantaged groups to secure a better future.
OBJECTIVES
Make NIRDPR the nodal advisory institute for skilling and placement linked programs for rural youth in the country by 2020
Enhance the competencies of stakeholders and functionaries in the effective implementation of placement linked skills programs for the benefit of the rural youth in India.
Be a knowledge repository of skilling initiatives and programs in the developing world.
To be the leader in impact evaluation research of skilling programs
Eligibility to be a part of DDU-GKY
Applicant’s age should be between 15 – 35 years
All Indian Women are eligible
Persons with disabilities (PWDs)
Transgender and other special groups
50% funds reserved for SCs and STs
15% for Minority Groups
3% for people with Disabilities
33% to be women in each training programs
People belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)
DDU-GKY Features and Benefits
DDU-GKY works with skill partners, regulating organizations, educations institutions, and private and public organizations to ensure positive change for rural youth and their families Offers dedicated training hours for basic computers, spoken English and soft skills in residential and non-residential campuses with adequate technology matching the industry standards
Efforts to place at least 70% of project target trainees with minimum monthly salary of Rs. 6000
Maintains minimum training on soft skills for at least 160 hours
Organizes work readiness training program to ensure that candidates start performing, as soon as they join any organization
Trainee’s benefits include free uniform, course material, and even lodging and boarding in case of residential program Post placement salary top-ups every month for 2-6 months depending on location of placement
Provides a Tablet PC per candidate at training centres
Manages computer labs and provides e-learning at training centres

ABOUT DDU-GKY
