Welcome to our Geography Department
THE IMPORTANCE OF GEOGRAPHY
The study of geography helps make sense of the world and prepares pupils for roles as global citizens in the 21st century.
Geography stimulates an interest in places. It explains how places and landscapes are formed, how people and environments work together.
In our Geography Department pupils learn to use maps, visual images and new technologies.
Geography inspires pupils to think about their own place in the world, their values and responsibilities to other people, to the environment and the sustainability of the planet.
GEOGRAPHY
is about places. It is about teaching children how to develop real global understanding and global citizenship so they can help to shape the world around them.
Good geographers develop a range of skills which make them highly employable and which are relevant to any future workforce.
For pupils we seek to bring about:
Knowledge and understanding of the planet Earth and its peoples.
Lasting awareness of the world around us.
Sensitivity and empathy towards all others.
Tolerance and independent thinking.
Preparedness for an active citizen’s role in a changing world.
In our department every person’s opinion counts and is valued, the pupil voice is encouraged and listened to.
