Programs that Prepare - French International School of Oregon Programs that Prepare We will provide a consistent, nurturing, academically challenging curriculum for all students that prepares them for success beyond French International. We Will Develop, enhance, and align our transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs across the school to provide a robust curriculum alignment for all students. Create a dynamic, streamlined STEAM program for all grade levels to enhance the transfer and application of learning. Leverage professional development in areas that enhance our student learning experiences such as differentiation, student support, inclusion, and language. Expl re Other Pillars People Place Presence Fifth Graders Explore France Fifth graders recently took a nine-day trip to France, focusing on language and cultural immersion. They visited Paris and La Rochelle, seeing significant landmarks, tasting French foods, and practicing their language skills. The trip is a capstone of their language learning in Maternelle and Lower School and allows students to gain valuable cultural understanding. Eighth Graders Showcase Impact Through Community Projects On March 11, eighth graders presented their Community Projects, marking a key milestone in their Middle Years Programme. Beginning in the fall, students identified topics and developed action plans, engaging in service and advocacy. The Community Project aligns with our mission to empower positive impact and foster globally responsible learners. Exploring Rights and Responsibilities Through Mock Trial Seventh graders studied rights and responsibilities this month and were challenged with a mock trial. Students were divided into plaintiff and defense teams, serving as attorneys and witnesses, preparing questions and evidence. The experience promoted critical thinking, collaboration, and discussions on justice and responsibility, helping students understand the judicial system. Innovation in Action: STEAM Across the Lower School STEAM learning promotes hands-on exploration. This month, fifth graders create 3D-printed machines that convert solar energy to kinetic energy, third graders build Rube Goldberg machines to learn about simple machines and problem-solving, and second graders connect circuits with storytelling through kamishibai scenes. The STEAM lab encourages creativity and practical application of science and was made possible by a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and our generous capital campaign donors. Sixth Grade - An Interconnected World Sixth graders completed their second unit, "An Interconnected World," focusing on the global spread of languages and cultures. For their final assessment, students wrote articles reflecting on their experiences at French International and what languages the school should add.
